Hoppers(10-10)/Rocks(10-10)

Blue Rocks line:12-10-0
Hoppers' line: 7- 9-1

The Blue Rocks out-hit the Hoppers just 10-9, but look at what the Rocks did with their hits….

Ten hits total and they had six HR’s, two doubles and a triple, among those ten hits…

Nine of their ten hits, were extra base hits….

You had two HR’s from Armond Upshaw who led the game off with a home run, and then Upshaw homered again in the third inning…Upshaw with a solo HR and a two-run home run…Wilmington’s Jake Alu produced a solo HR and a two-run homer, plus he also had a Double for the Rocks…With Upshaw and Alu, that’s half of the Blue Rocks ten hits right there….Gage Canning had a solo HR and single, plus a SAC Fly RBI for the Rocks…Israel Pineda came up with a solo HR and a Double for the Rocks…Bobby Lindsly tripled for Wilmington…

That’s your 10 hits right there…Six home runs, two doubles, a triple and one single…Nine extra-base hits, that is real busy on the bases for the Rocks…

The Greensboro Grasshoppers got HR’s from Aaron Shackleford, Matt Gorski, and from LoLo Sanchez…The Hoppers also got a Double off of the bat of Gorski, and on the Hoppers’ homers, all three of the long balls, came off of the Rocks starting pitcher, Zach Brzykcy, who is from Hickory, N.C. and Brzykcy pitched in college, for the Virginia Tech Hokies…

Greensboro got out-hit by Wilmington just 10-9, but those extra-base hits coming off of the Blue Rocks bats really added up…Nine of their ten hits again went for extra bases, but the Hoppers only had four extra-base hits…

Rocks up early 3-0, the Hoppers would cut the lead down to just 3-2, but then the Rocks went on a tear again, scoring five runs in the third inning to move ahead 8-2, but the Hoppers found two runs in the bottom of the third frame, to cut the lead in half, making it 8-4 Rocks, but then the Rocks added on three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to jump on top of the Hoppers, 11-4…One more Blue Rock run in the top of the fifth inning and this game was almost out-of-control, with Wilmington now in front, 12-4, over the Greensboro Grasshoppers….

Greensboro added three cosmetic runs over the later innings of the contest, with two in the sixth, and then one final run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but those late tallies would not be nearly enough, as the Wilmington Blue Rocks put the final necessary touches on this game to win it, 12-7…..

The story was the pitching, on Tuesday night at First National Bank Field, and then on Wednesday night, it was all about the hitting, with the long ball being in vogue…
