Greensboro College Announces 2021 Football Schedule
Greensboro to Play First Full Season Under Head Coach Tyler Card This Fall
GREENSBORO, N.C.—For the first time since November 16, 2019, Greensboro College will have a regular-season game scheduled in the Fall as the Pride and head coach Tyler Card announced their 2021 schedule earlier Friday afternoon. The 2021 slate will be the first full-season schedule for Card at the helm of the Pride, who played a three-game season this past Spring.
Highlighting the 2021 schedule is the return of the Gate City Soup Bowl with cross-town rival Guilford College for the first time since the 2016 season. The Pride officially boasts seven wins against the Quakers in a contest highlighted by the canned food drive engineered by each institution to food banks across the Greensboro area. The Pride opens the season with Quakers on September 4 with a 7 p.m. contest at Guilford’s Armfield Athletic Center.
Greensboro’s USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) opener takes place on September 18 when Averett University travels to the College Hill district of the Gate City. The contest will mark the first USA South contest on-campus in program history, with a noon kickoff on Pride Field. Greensboro has claimed seven victories over Averett in the school’s 19 matchups against the Cougars with Averett winning the last four. The Pride took three straight games against the Cougars from 2012 to 2015. Both sides did not compete against each other in 2013. The matchup will be the final USA South contest between the two schools with Averett entering the Old Dominion Athletic Conference beginning in 2022.
The Pride will welcome Gallaudet University to Greensboro on September 25 for the College’s Homecoming weekend contest beginning at noon. The Pride boasts a 7-0 all-time record against the Bison with the most recent win coming on September 28, 2019, when the Pride beat the Bison, 27-25, in Washington, D.C.
USA South action takes over for the rest of the season in October with the Pride hosting two contests while traveling to three in the month. Brevard College opens the month for the Pride on October 2 with a special 4 p.m. start time on Pride Field. Greensboro takes to the road for the following two weeks with an October 9 matchup at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Pride travel to Southern Virginia University, Tyler Card’s alma mater, on October 16th for the Pride’s third all-time matchup against the Knights and the first USA South contest between the two schools. Huntingdon College visits Greensboro on October 23 for a noon kickoff on Pride Field as the Pride follows the contest with a trip to LaGrange College on October 30.
Coach Card’s Pride rounds out their 2021 schedule with their home finale on November 6 against Methodist University. The Pride and the Monarchs faced off twice last Spring, once in USA South action. Methodist has been Greensboro’s most common opponent with the 2021 matchup representing the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools. The Pride finishes their 2021 schedule with a trip to Maryville College for the 14th all-time meeting with the Scots.
Greensboro finished last Spring with a 1-2 record in a shortened season delayed from the Fall, 2020, due to COVID-19. The Pride earned Tyler Card his first career win as a head coach on April 3 with a 24-21 victory at Sewanee: The University of the South.
Attendance policies for USA South games and the contest at Guilford this Fall have not yet been determined. More information on parking and tickets for Pride home games on Pride Field, once attendance policies have been determined, will be announced before the start of the season.
