HPU Men Complete Season at 2021 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Championships

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — The High Point University men’s track and field team had two competitors on Day 3 of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Friday, May 28th. Chris Van Niekerk competed in his second event of the week in the discus. In his second career regional appearance, Hocine Bouchrak ran in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Panther Performances
– Van Niekerk threw 53.90m in his second attempt as each mark he threw kept him in the top three of his flight.
– Van Niekerk’s last attempt of the day was his biggest as he threw 54.56m. Heading into the third flight Van Niekerk was fourth overall and finished third in his flight. He finished 17th overall with a mark of 54.56m.
– Bouchrak competed in the third heat of the 3000m Steeplechase in what was his second NCAA East Preliminary Championships appearance.
– Bouchrak finished 29th overall with a time of 9:09.64 in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Who will You see on Day 4?
Competing today for HPU on Day 4 of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships will be three Panther Women. Alicia Dawson returns to Hodges Stadium for the triple jump at 3:15 PM after competing in the long jump earlier this week. Famke Heinst and Zoe Geis will both be the final Panthers competing at the 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Championships as they will both be in the 3000m Steeplechase at 6:10 PM.
