Elon Women’s Phoenix Track and Field Concludes Outdoor Campaign at NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Elon University women’s track and field team saw its 2021 outdoor season end on Saturday, May 29, as the Phoenix concluded competition at the NCAA East Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

FINAL RESULTS

The maroon and gold saw the decorated track seasons of Melissa Anastasakis and Scolasticah Kemei end on Saturday in the 1,500-meters and the 5,000-meters, respectively. After setting a school-record in the opening round of the 1,500-meters on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals today, Anastasakis finished 19th overall with her time of 4:24.68 to conclude her second trip to the NCAA East Regional round.

Kemei just missed out on qualifying for the NCAA national meet in Eugene, Ore., in the 5,000-meters. The Eldoret, Kenya, native ran a time of 16:09.63 in the event, finishing 13th overall and just missing the 12th and final qualifying spot for the nationals by two seconds in her first-ever NCAA East regional meet with the Phoenix.
