Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna(Greensboro Grasshoppers 2011) was granted a $20,000 bond Monday on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and battery, according to the Associated Press.
Ozuna was arrested Saturday after police witnessed him choking his wife and throwing her against a wall. The 30-year-old’s wife had visible injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
Major League Baseball launched an investigation into the incident, and Ozuna could be hit with a significant suspension. The Braves also released a statement saying they would not comment on the matter until the investigation is complete.
Ozuna re-signed with the Braves after a solid 2020 season. He has also spent time with the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals.
The two-time All-Star will likely be placed on the restricted list, which will prevent him from being paid.
