Greensboro College Announces 2021 Women’s Soccer Schedules, Returns to Fall Action

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Greensboro College women’s soccer will return to their normal Fall schedule as head coach Jordan May announced the 2021 schedule this morning, marking the first Fall competition since the USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) Tournament in November 2019.

The Pride opens their regular season Wednesday, September 1 when Greensboro returns to May’s alma mater, Roanoke College, in Salem, Va. May played four seasons with the Maroons, appearing in 78 games as a defender with 60 starts on Roanoke’s back line. The Pride and the Maroons last played against each other on September 18, 2019, as Roanoke claimed a 2-0 win over Greensboro on Pride Field.

Johnson & Wales University (Charlotte) opens the Pride’s home schedule on Saturday, September 4. The opener on Pride Field marks for the matchup with the Wildcats as both teams face off in a 4 p.m. contest on Pride Field.

Greensboro takes to the road for their next four games. Three out of those four contests come against foes from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) as the road swing begins Wednesday, September 8 at Ferrum College. The second ODAC matchup comes Wednesday, September 15 when the Pride travel to Bridgewater College, which comes off a 10-1-1 Spring season and an ODAC Championship. Greensboro finishes their ODAC matchups Saturday, September 18 with a contest at Randolph-Macon College. In the middle of that road trip, the Pride will travel to Emory University on Saturday, September 11. The Eagles did not compete in 2020-21. However, Emory finished 13-5 in 2019 with an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Immediately the road trip, the Pride returns home on Sunday, September 19 for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest against the Spring’s USA South West Division champion Piedmont College. Greensboro looks to avenge the 2018 USA South Athletic Conference semifinal double-overtime defeat at the hands of the Lions, the last matchup between the two teams.

The Pride opens USA South play with two road contests, beginning with a rematch of last Spring’s USA South East Division Final against Pfeiffer University on Saturday, September 25. The Pride follows with a short drive to Salem College Tuesday, September 28.

Greensboro returns home for a weekend homestand beginning Friday, October 1 as the Pride hosts Meredith College for the Pride’s first-ever night game on Pride Field at 7 p.m. The Pride finishes the weekend with a non-conference matchup with the University of Mary Washington Sunday, October 3.

After road contests at Southern Virginia University and Averett University, the Pride will host Methodist on Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m., looking to avenge their lone Spring loss against the Monarchs. After an October 16 matchup at William Peace, the Pride will finish their final two games at home, hosting Mary Baldwin University on Wednesday, October 20 at 4 p.m. and North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday, October 24 at 2 p.m.

The USA South Women’s Soccer Tournament begins Saturday, October 30 with first round action on campus sites. The tournament will be completed Friday, November 5, and Saturday, November 6 with semifinal action followed by the championship game.

Coach May’s Pride finished this past Spring season with a 6-1-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in USA South play. The Pride earned the second-seed in the USA South East Division, and won both contests against North Carolina Wesleyan and Pfeiffer on their way to the USA South East Division crown. In lieu of formal competition last Fall, the USA South fielded Spring competition with divisional tournaments instead of crowning an overall champion due to the cancellation of the Fall NCAA Division III Championships in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Greensboro has posted a 19-5-3 overall record since 2019 and looks to advance in the USA South Women’s Soccer Tournament for the third time since 2018 this Fall.
