Greensboro College Reveals 2021 Men’s Soccer Schedule
The Pride Returns to Action in the Fall after the 2020 Season Moved to the Spring

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Greensboro College men’s soccer makes a return to the Fall in September as head coach Tony Falvino announced the 2021 schedule earlier this afternoon. The Fall schedule will feature the Pride’s first games in the Fall months since November 2019.

The Pride’s schedule features matchups against four teams that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament and three teams who competed in Spring conference-sponsored championships earlier this year. Greensboro will start the season with three matchups against teams who made the NCAA Tournament in 2019 as part of their six-game opening-season road trip. A trip to Roanoke College Wednesday, September 1 opens the 2021 season for the Pride. The Maroons have lost only three games in the past two seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) third-seeded team in 2019. The Pride moves on to Christopher Newport University for a pair of matches at the Captains’ opening tournament. The Pride will face the Captains Saturday, September 4, and Gettysburg College Sunday, September 5. While both opponents did not compete last season, the Captains finished 2019 with a 14-2-5 record and a victory in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament. Gettysburg entered the 2019 NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection on their way to a 12-8-1 overall record, claiming a first-round tournament victory.

The road swing concludes with three games against ODAC schools. The Pride travels to Randolph College Wednesday, September 8, and faces East Mennonite University and Virginia Wesleyan University on September 11-12 in Virginia Beach.

Greensboro returns home for seven straight home games beginning Wednesday, September 15 against Ferrum College at 7 p.m. for the program’s first night game on Pride Field. In the stretch of home games, the Pride faces three teams who won or participated in their conference’s Spring championship games. Guilford College, the ODAC runner-up this past Spring, comes to Pride Field Friday, September 17 for a 7 p.m. match. The game marks the first game against the Quakers since 2017 when the Pride defeated Guilford, 5-0, at the Armfield Athletic Center. After a September 19th non-conference matchup against USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) member Piedmont College, USA South West Division champion Brevard College visits Pride Field Wednesday, September 22 for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.

In the middle of the homestand, the Pride will host a homecoming contest outside of conference play against Carolina University on Saturday, September 25. Greensboro follows with two contests against teams the Pride met in last Spring’s divisional postseason. William Peace University, who the Pride defeated to win the USA South’s east division, visits Greensboro Saturday, October 2 at noon. North Carolina Wesleyan College comes to Pride Field Tuesday, October 5 at 7 p.m. The Pride and the Battling Bishops faced each other twice in the Spring with the Pride avenging a loss in the regular season with an overtime victory in USA South East Division Tournament in April.

The Pride closes out the regular season with three out of five games on the road, beginning with a road trip to Methodist University for a 7 p.m. contest. Greensboro hosts Southern Virginia University for the first time as a USA South member Wednesday, October 13 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Pfeiffer University Saturday, October 16 and Mary Baldwin University Wednesday, October 20. The Pride concludes their regular season Tuesday, October 23 with a 4 p.m. contest against Averett University at Pride Field on the team’s senior day.

USA South Tournament action begins Saturday, October 30 with first-round matches. The final two rounds of the tournament take place Saturday, November 5, and Sunday, November 6.

The USA South created divisional postseason tournaments for their institutions, in lieu of a formal conference tournament, due to the postponement of last Fall’s schedule because of the pandemic and NCAA’s cancellation of their Division III fall sports championships.

Coach Falvino’s Pride finished the Spring with a 7-3 overall record and the USA South East Division crown. Greensboro has posted a 19-9-2 overall record since the beginning of the 2019 season.
