480-Foot Windish Grand Slam Highlights 12-5 Win Over Martinsville

High Point/Thomasville, NC – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms were eager to play their first full Coastal Plain League contest at Finch Field after their originally scheduled home opener was postponed due to weather on Thursday. They got a second crack at it on Friday night against the Martinsville Mustangs, and they took full advantage, winning 12-5.

HP-Thomasville had their own team home run derby, hitting five home runs. In the 7th inning, Hogan Windish hit a 480-foot grand slam to put the HiToms up 12-4. The bomb from Windish, which had a 112 mph exit velocity, was the deepest home run hit at Finch Field ever recorded by Trackman. In a fantastic offensive performance from HPT, Windish stole the show, stuffing the stat sheet with two home runs and five RBI.

Gabe Golob got the start on the mound for the HiToms, providing five innings of solid work. His start was highlighted by a 12-pitch at-bat against Cole Zak, which would end with a strikeout and stare-down from Golob. Luke Davis relieved him, and an effective breaking ball allowed him to be the two-inning bridge to the setup man/closer duo of Tristan Snyder and KJ Wells, who protected the then seven-run lead to clinch the HPT win.

The HiToms, who improved to 5-1 in CPL play, will be back in action TONIGHT at 6 p.m. in an exhibition against the Carolina Disco Turkeys.
