Providence(15-2)/Northwest Guilford(13-4)

Final from Northern Guilford High School:
JH Rose 11, Northern Guilford 7…9 Innings

Big three-run Double in the Top of the Ninth from Jayden Grimes(JH Rose)…
Northern Guilford(16-1)/Rose(13-4)….First loss of the season, and a very tough one for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…

More coming soon, as we get it all sorted out…The base umpire ripped/split his pants in the 5th Inning, and we had a game-delay…

This was a pressure-packed game tonight/Saturday night, out on Spencer-Dixon Road in Guilford County….

Just look at how the scoring of the game went….At one time, it looked like Northern Guilford was going to run away with this game…

End of the First Inning:NG 0, JH Rose 0…Rose took a 1-0 lead in the Top of the Second Inning, but then Northern Guilford erupted for 6 runs in the bottom of the Second Inning…End of the Second Inning:NG 6, JH Rose 1…End of the Third Inning:NG 6, JH Rose 1…End of the Fourth Inning:NG 7, JH Rose 2…End of the Fifth Inning:NG 7, JH Rose 2…End of the Sixth Inning:NG 7, JH Rose 2…During the stretch from 4-6th innings, Rose had a chance to cut into the score, but the Home Plate umpire ruled the Rose runner left third base early, and the Rose run was disallowed….That shut down a Rose Rally, but Rose had another Big Inning left in them….Rose scored 5 Runs in the top of the Seventh Inning, and the Rampants had tied the game up, coming from way back….End of the Seventh Inning:NG 7, JH Rose 7…..The game stayed tied through the eighth inning, End of the Eighth Inning:NG 7, Rose 7…Rose really got rolling in the Top of the Ninth Inning posting 4 big runs to take a lead of 11-7, over Northern Guilford…The Nighthawks could not match the JH Rose Rampants rally, and they closed out at, Final:JH Rose 11, Northern Guilford 7…..Nine Innings

You had Northern Guilford grab that early 6-1 lead, then the Nighthawks made it NG up 7-2…You had the Base Umpire splitting/ripping his pants in the Fifth Inning, you had the JH Rose Rampants rally to tie the game at 7-7 in the seventh, and then you had the Rose Rampants, taking command of the game of the Top on the Ninth Inning, and going on to win the game, 11-7…Rose Rampants on to Round Four of the NCHSAA 3-A Playoffs…

Jackson Roberts got a great start on the mound for Northern Guilford and he left the game after working three innings…When Roberts checked out, Northern was in front 6-1…Roberts game up one run on three hits, with 0 walks/2 strikeouts and he hit one batter…Slater Ward took the mound next for Northern and lasted three and a third innings, six runs on 7 hits, with no walks and one strikeout….Ward had a 7-2 lead backing him up, but the Rampants were able to post the five runs in top of the seventh off Ward, and then Lucas Selvey came on to relieve Ward and Selvey was pretty steady until Rose rallied in the top of the ninth inning, and it was 4 key runs by the Rampants off of Selvey, that gave them their 11-7 lead…Selvey gave up four runs, on five hits, he walked one batter, while striking out four Rose batters…Selvey hit one Rampant batter…

Wade Jarman was a true Rock on the Mound for the Rampants…There were times went it looked like Jarman might get chased out of the game, by the Northern Guilford bats, but he would kneel at the back of the mound, he would pat his hands on the ground, and bounce back up and attack the next Northern batter…Jarman did not get the start for Rose, but he worked seven hard-earned innings, and in the end, Jarman was the Winning Pitcher for the JH Rose Rampants…Carson Everette got the start for Rose, but he only lasted an Inning and a-third…Everette gave up four runs, on three hits, with three walks and no strikeouts…Rose went to the bullpen for their new pitcher and he came, and he was gone after only a third of an inning…He allowed two runs, on one hit with a walk….Then came Wade Jarman, and he might just be the Player of the Game…Jarman worked long, going the seven innings, giving up the one run, on four hits, while Jarman walked three and struck out seven Northern Guilford batters…Jarman gave up a solo home run to Northern’s Evan Wyrick, and Jarman hit one NG Nighthawks batter…Jarman was a stud out there on the hill Saturday night for the JH Rose Rampants..Cole Watkins came on for Jarman with two men gone in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Watkins closed out the Nighthawks, with Watson facing two batters….

I asked JH Rose coach Ronald Vincent about Jarman after the the game, and Coach Vincent said, “I want to be like Wade Jarman, when I grow up”….Coach Vincent said this was the longest stint of the season for Jarman, and that “Jarman produced, and then some”…”I wanted to go with my starter Carson Everette and my bullpen a little bit longer, and let Jarman come in later in the game, but when I needed him, he said give me the ball, and he was ready to go”…”Once he reached his pitch count, we had to pull him, and let Cole Watkins get the finish for us”….

Something that got my attention and I feel like this might have set the tone for the game, and the no-quit effort that JH Rose exhibited, and that was when the first batter of the game for Rose, the Rampants’ leadoff batter, Mitch Jones, and Jones beat out a ground-ball infield single, with a head-first slide into first base….It might not have been noticed all that much at the time, but later during the game, that same type of effort from Rose was showing through…

Northern hitters:Josh Deslauriers 2-5/Run…Jay Allred 0-3/BB/RBI…Evan Wyrick 2-5/HR/2 Runs/2 RBI…James Newsome 1-3/BB…Slater Ward 1-3/BB/Double/RBI…Ben Kaiser 0-2/3 BB’s…Nolan Lawrence 1-4/Run…Bryce King 0-3/BB/Run…Clay Minor 1-3/HBP/Run/2 RBI…

JH Rose hitters:Mitch Jones 3-5/HBP/Run/SB…Jayden Grimes 1-6/Double/3 RBI…Only one hit in the game for Grimes, but he waited for his time, and he came up huge, with his three-run Double, in the Top of the Ninth Inning…Ryker Galaska 1-4/HBP/Double/Run/2 RBI…Grayson Myrick 2-5/Double/Run/RBI…Wade Jarman 3-5/Double/2 Runs…Cam Greenway 3-5/2 Runs/2 RBI…Caleb May 2-5/Run/RBI…Cole Watkins
2-4/Run/RBI…Danny Sadler 2-4/BB/2 Runs…

On the Jayden Grimes double, that drove in three key runs in the Top of the Ninth Inning, JH Rose coach Ronald Vincent said that Grimes told him he was going to get that big hit for Rose…”Grimes had been quiet all night, and he was 0-5, as he headed to the plate for his at-bat in the Top of the Ninth Inning, but he was due, and Grimes told me he would come through for us, and he did, in a huge way”……”We got down 6-1, and then we were behind 7-2, but once we got rolling, it was like a steamroller and we just kept on coming”…”Like a snowball, it just kept on building, and we were on our way”…Now on their way to Round Four of the NCHSAA Playoffs, and the JH Rose Rampants have secured a spot in the 3-A East Regional Finals…Good luck to the Rampants, and let’s hope the Rampants can keep it rolling…

An excellent season for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, as the Diamond Hawks finish their 2021 campaign at (16-1)…Northern has a lot of young talent and you will see Coach Landon Kimrey, along with Coach Pope, and next year they will take their kids/team/guys/’Hawks on to the 4-A wars…We’ll see NG vs. Northwest, Southwest, Western, Grimsley, Page, Southeast and Ragsdale…Northern will get a chance to test some of the new Guilford County waters in 2022, and we look forward to seeing how they will do….

  1. Good job Cole WATKINS from J.H. Rose. The opposing coach didn’t have the name right.

  2. JH Rose players were the most foul mouthed group I have seen this year. A little coaching in that would be nice.

  3. The JH Rose baseball team might not be the most talented high school baseball team I have ever seen, but boy, those kids are scrappy…They might be one of the scrappiest teams I have ever seen…No give up in those young men, they just keep on scrappin’….
The Guilford County deputy sheriff on hand, and the acting Northern Guilford AD kept all things cool at Northern on Saturday night…All was good, and all was well…Good job by the NG staff, and those who were in charge…The Rose fans were a competitive bunch, but they and their kids are a good group, and we wish them luck on down the road…
One of the most trying moments in the game, came when the base umpire ripped/split his pants….
A pressure-packed game on Saturday night to be sure, but it had plenty of excitement on the field….Nine innings worth…
