HiToms Hold Off Mustangs for Father’s Day Victory

High Point/Thomasville, NC – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (10-4) and Martinsville Mustangs (7-9) faced off in the early evening this Father’s Day at Finch Field. Fathers of HiTom players and staff threw out the ceremonial first pitches to their sons to kick off a cloudy Sunday evening clash in Thomasville. HP-Thomasville used early offense to excel, winning their tenth game of the season, 5-4.

Ty Wilmsmeyer got the start on the mound for the HiToms, and he was excellent in 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out six Mustang batters. Hogan Windish was once again the story at the plate for HPT, launching another 400+ foot blast in the first inning. Max Riemer added his first home run for the HiToms with a solo shot in the 2nd, raising the HiToms lead to 3-0.

HP-Thomasville was in control for much of the contest, but Martinsville made a furious rally in the final innings to put the result in doubt. Christian Easley’s 2-run homer in the 8th cut the HiTom lead to two runs, and his RBI single in the 9th made it a 5-4 contest. Colin Sells responded by buckling down, striking out Matt Malone to end the game and clinching a HiTom win on Father’s Day.

After improving to 10-4 with today’s win, the HiToms are off on Monday before traveling to Asheboro on Tuesday evening, where they will take on the Copperheads at McCrary Park. The next home game for HP-T is on Wednesday, also versus Asheboro.
