Mustangs Sharp in HiToms’ 5-10 Loss

High Point/Thomasville, NC – The High Point-Thomasville HiToms (18-12) put five runs up in the fourth inning, but were outscored at Hooker Field in Martinsville, 10-5, by the Martinsville Mustangs (13-19) on Saturday night.

In the exciting fourth inning, HP-T pounded five runs on the board behind key extra base hits. Inheriting a 2-0 deficit, Thomas Caufield crushed a two-run home run to slide the HiToms and Mustangs into a deadlock. HP-T would then load the bases against Mustang starter Caleb McRoy, who had to face Hogan Windish.

The reigning CPL Hitter of the Year leads the CPL in RBIs, and came through once more, clearing the bases with a line drive to right center field. Windish’s 7th double of the year capped the five-run inning, giving the HiToms a 5-2 lead.

From that point, it was all Mustangs, with eight unanswered runs. Four of those came in the bottom of the fourth, to allow Martinsville to retake the lead.

The loss was dealt to the starter, Gabe Golob, who allowed four earned runs. Chace Harris and Luke Davis relieved well, allowing no earned runs as a duo. Harris struck out a season-high five batters in his seventh consecutive appearance without allowing an earned run.

HP-T returns to Finch Field on Sunday for Northwood Veterinary Bark in the Park! First pitch is at 5:00 p.m. versus the Boone Bigfoot. Those in attendance on Sunday will receive a free HiToms’ Bandana.
