FEATURED ATHLETE – SAVANNAH LEE
This past weekend Savannah Lee pinned her competition while winning gold medals in both the 14U boys and girls divisions.

“I like wrestling the boys more because I get stronger,” said Lee. “Not going to lie, I also like to see them lose.”

The Dunn native started wrestling when she was eight.

“My dad had just put me in it,” said Lee. “We are just going to try it and see if you are any good and if you like it.”

The now 14-year-old uses wrestling as an escape from issues that plague teens.

“I love it because it is a healthy outlet for all my problems,” said Lee. “My anger, frustration, depression, and anxiety all go away when I’m on the mat.”

Lee encourages more girls her age to start wrestling.

“You just have to get out there on the mat,” said Lee. “It won’t be easy at first. Nothing is when you first start, but this sport will make you. You gotta keep pushing. This sport will take you places. College, the Olympics, dream big, but you got to get out on the mat first.”

While Lee has big plans for her future, she also plans to defend her gold medals at the 2022 BODYARMOR State Games.

“If I can wrestle the boys, I’ll come,” said Lee. “I’ll try to win again too.”
