Four Former HiToms selected in 2021 MLB Draft

High Point/Thomasville, NC – Four former High Point-Thomasville HiToms were selected in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft, bringing the team’s all-time total to 158 draft picks. Ryan Cusick, Zack Gelof, Ethan Murray and Logan Workman represent the latest HPT alumni to be drafted into the majors.

When the Atlanta Braves selected him 24th overall, Cusick became the first 1st-round pick out of High Point-Thomasville since Wade Townsend was selected with the eighth pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2005. Cusick is the second-highest draft pick in HiToms team history.

Three more HiToms were drafted on Monday during the second day of the MLB Draft. From the 2020 HiToms, Gelof was drafted in the 2nd round by the Oakland Athletics and Murray was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 147th pick of the draft in the 5th round. From the 2019 roster, Workman was picked by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 7th round.

With this year’s selections, the HiToms now claim 20 draft picks in the top 5 rounds of the MLB Entry Draft and 158 picks overall since the team’s inception in 1999.
