Wake Forest Alumni Webb Simpson, Will Zalatoris, Bill Haas will play Wyndham Championship

WAKE FOREST ALUMNI WEBB SIMPSON, WILL ZALATORIS, BILL HAAS WILL PLAY WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Wake Forest alumni, 2011 champion Webb Simpson, Will Zalatoris and Bill Haas, will play the Wyndham Championship next month, the tournament announced today. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Simpson is currently 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 49th in FedExCup points. He has five top-10 finishes this season including finishing tied for sixth at the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship at Concession and tied for eighth at the U.S. Open. He captured his first PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham in 2011 and went on to win the 2012 U.S. Open 10 months later.

Simpson, who finished tied for third here last year, recorded a top-three finish in each of his last four appearances at Sedgefield. The Raleigh native leads the Wyndham Championship career money list with $3,527,268 in 12 appearances. He represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 2012, ‘14 and ‘18, the Presidents Cup in 2011, ‘13 and ‘19 and the Walker Cup in 2007.

Zalatoris, who is currently 30th in the Official World Golf Rankings, is best known for his runner-up finish at the Masters earlier this year. He also finished tied for fifth at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and tied for sixth at the U.S. Open earlier this season. The former Demon Deacon injured his back and withdrew from the Open Championship last week but still plans to play the Wyndham.

Because he has not yet won on the PGA TOUR, the San Francisco native enjoys the TOUR’s “special temporary member” status meaning he can accept an unlimited number of sponsor exemptions and will use an exemption here. The 2018 Wake Forest graduate was the 2017 ACC Player of the Year, 2017 First-Team All-American and a member of the 2007 Walker Cup Team. The 2014 US Junior Amateur champion made his Wyndham Championship debut in 2018 but missed the cut.

Haas, the 2011 FedExCup champion, has several excellent Wyndham Championship finishes. He tied for 10th in 2009, tied for seventh in 2012, tied for second in 2014 and tied for sixth in 2015. The six-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t won this season but has made some solid finishes in his effort to return to the form that earned a FedExCup, six PGA TOUR victories and more than $30 Million in career earnings. He represented the United States in the Presidents Cup in 2011, ’13 and ’15 as well as the Walker Cup in 2003. The Charlotte native will make his 17th Wyndham Championship start next month.

New this year, the Wyndham Championship will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday only. All tickets will be digital, and bring your Wyndham Rewards Visa because the Wyndham is cashless.
