News on Greensboro Grasshoppers Baseball from Bill Hass(Bill on Baseball):Scott Cousins, former Hopper with 3 HR’s/9 RBI back in 2007

Courtesy of Bill Hass, formerly with the News and Record(Greensboro) and with Bill on Baseball, at GSOHoppers.com/www.gsohoppers.com….And I wonder what Bill’s thoughts might be, with there being NO News and Record newspaper to be published on Monday September 6/Labor Day Monday…First time in most people’s memory, that there will be NO N&R published….

from Bill on Baseball:
The recent spree by Nick Gonzales reminded me of a performance by Scott Cousins with the Hoppers. I looked it up and on Aug. 22, 2007, he had three home runs and 9 RBIs against Hickory in a 13-7 victory in Greensboro. He hit a 2-run homer in the first, a grand slam in the second and a three-run shot in the eighth. That left him just a solo homer away from a “home run cycle.” Cousins was a left-handed hitter who eventually played parts of four seasons with the Marlins and Angels.

That was voted the Class A Performance of the Year by milb.com. So that’s the Hoppers record for RBIs in a game. I’m not sure how many other guys might have hit 3 HRs — I believe Grant Koch did it in a road game at the tail end of the 2019 season.

**********But I’ve never see anything like what Gonzales has done — 5 HR and 15 RBIs in two games? Outrageous!**********
