Message From Chancellor Gilliam
After 12 years, Kimberly Record is stepping down as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at UNC Greensboro as of September 3. During her tenure, Kim has guided UNCG to success on and off the court, with 15 SoCon championships in our various sports over the last 12 years, including five teams winning Southern Conference championships in 2017-18, with four of those teams advancing to their respective NCAA Tournaments. In addition, UNCG’s student-athletes have regularly earned some of their highest GPAs ever during Kim’s tenure. Despite the pandemic, the Spartans shined in the classroom, and a record 174 student-athletes were named to the SoCon academic honor roll.

In addition to making an impact at UNCG, Kim is a nationally well-respected administrator and has often been consulted by fellow Athletic Directors in our conference on national issues. Kim was honored as one of 28 Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award recipients at the 2014 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Convention (NACDA) in Orlando in the NCAA Division I-AAA category. She is currently serving as the president of the NCAA Division I-AAA Association and is second Vice President of NACDA.

During her tenure at UNCG, Kim led the Athletics department through a successful strategic planning process (“The Spartan Way”) in an effort to ensure the continued success and future improvement of Spartan Athletics. The plan includes five core values and six goals for the department summarized with the motto – “We discover and develop champions in life.”

Kim was also instrumental in helping drive the UNCG Athletics’ Campaign for Champions, a fundraising campaign-initiative to transform student-athlete academic and support facilities, and to recruit and retain top coaches to lead UNCG’s 17 Division I athletic teams. Over $3.1 million has been raised to date.

Kevin Bostian, Executive Associate Athletic Director for External Operations, will serve as interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Prior to his current role at UNCG, Kevin worked as an administrator in athletic departments at NC State, Georgia Southern, Tennessee Tech, South Alabama, and East Tennessee State University. We will be launching a national search for our next Athletic Director and will share more details at a later date.

Our student-athletes remain our priority, especially during this transition. I am proud of our student athletes and coaches. They showed great resilience last year as they dealt with COVID – both in the classroom and on the field. Under the leadership of our outstanding staff and coaches, they represented UNCG well – even though they were unable to compete in front of family, friends, and fellow students due to COVID guidelines, they played hard and scored some remarkable wins during the season.

We are looking forward to a great season in all of our 17 D1 sports. Go Spartans!
