The Friday Night Finish:Southern Guilford Storm weathers Western Guilford Hornets with strong second half, and SG over WG 30-13/Dudley falls to Hillside 30-14/NG wins real big at WA/SEG grounds Smith Golden Eagles/NWG finds the road friendly at WS Reynolds and more

I would say the shocker of the night has to be Dudley falling at Durham Hillside…Dudley was down 15-14 at halftime, and then the Hornets laid it on the Panthers in the second half to win that game, 30-14…Big test for Dudley outside of town, and the Panthers go down, hard….

Northern Guilford took out Western Alamance, and it wasn’t even close…Northern wins it, 50-0…

Northeast Guilford hosting Morehead…Morehead wins it, 42-6…

*****Northern Guilford(3-0) should move into #2 in the area polls next week, with Dudley falling tonight/Friday at Durham Hillside…*****

Northwest Guilford goes on to win 41-21 over WS Reynolds…That Bristol Carter can really go…

The GreensboroSports Radio team was at Doug Henderson Stadium, and walking on hallowed ground, as we moved across the Joe Robinson Field on Friday night…We had Chuck Mobley, on PA up in the press box, with Heath Lineberry running the game clock, and Enad Haddad was riding shotgun with us, for the broadcast tonight/Friday…Great job of having things ready for the first game of the season, for the Western Guilford Hornets, and it was not only their season-opener, it was their home opener…Great night to be back over at Western Guilford, on Friendway Drive, where Chris Causey leads the athletic programs, as the Hornets’ AD, and Greg Newlin, maintains overall order as the WG principal….Fine crew and strong unit/team running house at Hornet Land…Thanks to the gentleman that gave me a lift to my car in the Gator after the game was over, you don’t get that type of treatment everywhere you go, but the Hornets’ hospitality was like a cup that runneth over on this night…Thanks to all of the Hornet helpers…And, you might say, Andy they ought to treat you right, you helped put that program on the map back in the day, and I did, and many of the men and women that served with me on that athletic battlefield back in the day are now gone/dead, but man I have to say, it is always good to be able to go back to the old hacienda…

And now we need to take a look at the WG-Southern Guilford football game, here on the Friday Night Finish….Western Guilford led this game, 13-6 at halftime…Western ran their stuff in the first half, and it worked, on both offense and defense…And I will give you a good example…

Southern Guilford took the early lead, 6-0, and Southern found the end zone on a four-yard TD run by Rydell Herbin…The PAT kick was blocked, and it was SG in front of WG, 6-0, with 4:44 to go in the first quarter…

Western Guilford would not sit and take that Southern Guilford unhospitality, Western Guilford got on the Scott Holland Scoreboard, when WG QB Zack Kashubara connected with Cameron Winfield for 16-yard TD pass play, and after the PAT kick sailed wide-left, Western had tied this game up with Southern, at 6-6…

We talked about how the Western Guilford offense and defense both got rolling in the first half, and we just saw what the offense did, and now it was time for the WG “D” to make a statement and they did….Bryson Moore picked off a Southern Guilford pass from SG QB Jamias Ferere, and Moore took that interception back 60 yards, for a Pick Six…The WG PAT kick was pretty, and it was good, off of the foot of Tyler Priddy…Western Guilford now leads this contest, 13-6…The Hornets are back, and they are back in front….And that is how we went into halftime, Western Guilford up, 13-6, over the Southern Guilford Storm…

One problem that WG ran into, is that there are two halves and four quarters to a football game, and this game was only one half, and two quarters old…

The second half was all Southern Guilford….Western’s offense never really got rolling, and the WG defense stayed on the field most of the second half…The WG offense never made it to mid-field in the second half…Southern Guilford was in total control, and the Storm got a 10-yard run from Rydell Herbin and then a twenty-yard two-point conversion run from SG QB Jamias Ferere, and Southern re-gained the lead over WG, 14-13…The Storm lead came with 9:36 to play in quarter number three/the third quarter….Right at the end of the third quarter, Southern struck again, on a two-yard run by Jaylin White, and with the successful White two-point conversion run, SG has pushed their lead up to 22-12, with just 53.5 seconds left to play in the third quarter…

The final tally of the night for the SG Storm came when Rydell Herbin put a hurtin’ on a three-yard run to the promised land, and with the Herbin two-point conversion run, Southern Guilford has run out to a 30-13 advantage over the Western Guilford Hornets…

And that is how our game would end, with a final score of Southern Guilford Storm 30, Western Guilford Hornets 13…..And remember, WG lead at halftime, 13-6…Twenty-four(24) unanswered points from the SG Storm, in half number two…

Southern Guilford now at (1-1) for the season, and the Storm will hosting the Southeast Guilford Falcons(1-1) at C.K. Siler Stadium, on the SG campus next Friday night…

Western Guilford falls to (0-1), and I believe the Hornets will be at Northeast Guilford(0-2) next week….

Our Steak n Shake offensive Player of the Game was Rydell Herbin, from Southern Guilford High School….Herbin with three(3) touchdown runs, and one two-point conversion run, and he scored 20 of his team’s thirty(30) points…

The Steak n Shake defensive Player of the Game was Conner Fields, from Southern Guilford High School…Fields had two key picks/interceptions for the game, and he was playing center field for the SG Storm defense, and he was a solid team-leader on defense….

Was impressed with several of Coach T’s young men from the WG team….Isaiah Williams, Isaiah Horne, Cameron Winfield, Bryson Moore, Quan Bailey-Moore, Nyeke Hunter, Bryson Strand, they all had solid nights for the Hornets…

WG and both teams for that matter are going to have to get rid of that boat-load of penalties that we saw out there on Friday night…Quite a few delay-of-game penalties, false starts, lining up in the neutral zone, blocks in the back, and maybe the most frequent penalty of them all, H-O-L-D-I-N-G….Got to get a handle on those penalties….

Should be a good matchup, with Southeast Guilford(1-1) at Southern Guilford(1-1) next Friday evening….SEG at #7 in the Top Ten Poll this week, and SG in at the #8 spot, and both teams ought to moving up a spot or two, by next Friday night…Come on out to C.K. Siler Stadium, at Southern Guilford High School next Friday…If you can’t make it to the game, we will bring the game to you on GreensboroSports Radio

SEG over Smith, 49-0, this week, and the SEG Falcons at Southern Guilford next week, on GreensboroSports Radio….

  1. Anyone noticed Northern Guilford has outscored opponents 147-13 in first 3 games…while missing key players….

  2. The way that they(Northern Guilford) have been playing, when they get those key players back, we better look out for them(Nighthawks)…..
    Grimsley
    Northern
Northwest…That looks how the Metro 4-A might be headed…Others may have to fight for what’s left over….SEG is still developing, SWG is making some strides, we all know Page has a long way to go to get back there, and Western Guilford is trying to get all of their pieces together, and in place..The battles between SEG, SWG, and Page could get real interesting….Right now, going in, it looks like Grimsley, NG, and NWG have the edge on the playoff picture….
Metro 4-A could be a fun league this 2021 season….
And overall, after just three weeks of the regular season, what do we have, TWO unbeaten teams remaining in Guilford County??? Northern Guilford(3-0) and Grimsley(2-0)…We have only been at it three weeks, and we only have two undefeated teams left…Interesting…

  3. Who these key players northern missing? Why are they missing? Grades covid injuries? Hope the young men are ok and be back soon.

  4. I know Southern Guilford won but Western Guilfords Bryson Moore#20 should’ve easily been Defensive player of the game. He was easily the best player on the field for either team. His stat line was 16 tackles (12 solo) 1 blocked Fg, 1 int for TD, 1 pass break up. The kid has multiple college offers and interest is growing. I’m saying he is underrated because he plays on a bad team but anyone in the stands Friday night could see his high level of play. If he played on a winning team he’d have so much more hype. I feel for him but respect him for not transferring to any of the high schools that we’re trying to recruit him away.

  5. Bryson Moore(Western Guilford HS) sounds like a good candidate for our Defensive Player of the Week…We will start that post on here on Wednesday and look to get him in the mix…Be sure to check back in here again on Wednesday and make sure we get him listed….AD
