Danny Pigge’s Pigskin Preview with our Murphy Wainer Game of the Week and our SayYes Guilford kickoff

Here are the Guilford County games we will be tracking on Friday night…
(Not many games on tap for this evening, but here is how they are lining up.)

Grimsley(2-0) at Pinecrest(3-0)
Grimsley will try and get their high-powered offense rolling on the road, down in Southern Pines…Travis Shaw has still not been cleared to play for Grimsley, but the Whirlies have Thompson and Jarrell holding down the fort along their defensive line, and Grimsley can go to Tyson Resper, Alex Taylor, Nolan Albright and others, once they get the ball and settle in on offense, with Alonza Barnett III, at QB…Grimsley should come away from Pinecrest at (3-0), and then begin preparing for Southeast Guilford at home, next Friday night….Joe Sirera will be at this game covering it on Twitter(Twitter score updates) and he will have a game report/post for HSXtra.com and for the News and Record..

Southeast Guilford(1-1) at Southern Guilford(1-1)
SEG goes down to C.K. Siler Stadium, to faceoff with the SG Storm…Southern coming off of a big win at Western Guilford, and SEG claimed a lopsided home victory last Friday night at Bill Slayton Stadium, as the Falcons fly by the Smith Golden Eagles…SEG will be led by their backup quarterback, and now he is their starting QB Bryson Serrano…Serrano took over for Ryan Stephens, when Stephens was injured in Week One vs. Dudley…Last week in their win over Smith, SEG looked to running back Keyshawn Wall, and you would think SEG would not go AWOL on Friday, but that they would go right back to Wall again…Alex McCalop continues to lead that SEG defensive front, and at 6’3/255, McCalop can cause all kinds of problems for the opposing team’s offense..Southern has that look of a running team too, with Rydell Herbin and Jaylin White doing excellent work on the ground for SG, over at Western Guilford…The SG sophomore QB Jamias Ferere is a very good runner, and he is one of the best around at carrying out his play fakes….You will think he has handed off the football, but he still has the ball, and he is running for plus yardage….SEG will look to put a clamp on Herbin, White and Ferere, and the Falcons will want to shut down the Storm running game….It may come down to the kicking game, and I would give the kicking edge to SEG and their junior kicker/punter Aiden Bonde…This game should really come down to which team commits the fewest turnovers and has the fewest penalties…Got to cut down on all mistakes…Looking for a very good ‘backyard battle’ on Friday night, at C.K. Siler Stadium…Coach Siler was a great one back in his day, and he now resides at the Clapp’s Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden, N.C. Game and can be heard on GreensboroSports Radio….Tune in for the pregame at 6:50, and then stick around for the opening SayYes Guilford kickoff, at 7:30pm….Jeff Carter is the AD at SG, and we look forward to seeing Jeff and his crew on Friday evening…SEG vs. SG on Friday night, on GreensboroSports Radio

Western Guilford(0-1) at Northeast Guilford(0-2)
Western Guilford needs this one in a bad way, as when WG gets into their Metro 4-A games, the victories will be coming few, and far in-between…WG with Zack Kashubara and Deandre Hargrove at QB, and kids like Bryson Moore and Jayden Brown at RB, plus receivers including Isaiah Williams, Isaiah Horne, and Cameron Winfield, and this group will be the group that must lead WG to victory, at the Bill Bookout Stadium, on the Northeast Guilford HS campus….WG needs the above listed players to really step up and be counted for, if the Hornets expect to come away from the Bookout Stadium, with the win…We still do not know any inside information on the NEG Rams…We are waiting for our NEG correspondent Brian Avolio to send us a synopsis on the Rams….

Ragsdale(1-1) at Eastern Guilford(0-1)
Eastern wins the JV game on Thursday and we will see if this result has any bearing on the Friday night game…Not knowing much about either one of these teams, we think the Tigers may have the slight edge over the Wildcats…This will only be the second game of the season for the EG ‘Cats…Ragsdale has been battled-tested and the battle has been long…

High Point Andrews(0-2) at WS Parkland(1-1)
We are hearing the cupboard may have become barren over at Andrews, and Friday night we will find out for certain if the HP Andrews Red Raiders are still going to be a team to contend with, in this 2021 season…We will find out quickly on Friday night…Keep a watch on our Scoreboard Posts, that will be handled by Don Moore…

Asheville Christian(0-2) at High Point Christian Academy(1-1) 7pm at the High Point Athletic Complex
HPCA another Guilford County team coached by Sam Beasley, the brother of Dave Beasley, from down at Southeast Guilford High School….Not sure what the HPCA Cougars have this season, but we will lean toward them in this contest….One of the weird/strange things of the week is, High Point Christian traveled and defeated South Iredell last Friday night, and this week, the East Forsyth Eagles will be visiting South Iredell…HPCA a private independent high school, and East Forsyth, and highly-ranked 4-A powerhouse…South Iredell here they come again…
