You’ve got to hand it to the Washington Football Team pass-rusher Chase Young, who sure has confidence in his squad — especially when it comes to quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

The odds were stacked against WFT in Week 1 when Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers and Heinicke was charged with taking over under center. Despite coming up short to Justin Herbert and the Bolts, Washington has nothing but good things to say about their new QB1.

Young praised the 28-year-old QB when he spoke with Sam Fortier of The Washington Post.

Heinicke did in fact spark Washington’s offense after entering the game for Fitzpatrick, even leading them to a third-quarter 16-13 lead before ultimately being defeated 20-16.

Head coach Ron Rivera has been complimentary of Heinicke all along, and Sunday’s performance was no exception.

“Well, obviously we were pleased,” Rivera said via the team’s website. “We moved the ball well, we made some things happen. We moved the ball well early, too. We just didn’t put it in the end zone. But with Taylor, we got one in the end zone.”
