Danny Pigge’s Pigskin Preview with our Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Game of the Week and the SayYes Guilford Kickoff

High School Football TONIGHT for our Guilford County Teams
(All games set to kick off at 7:30pm)

Southeast Guilford(2-1) at Grimsley(3-0)
SEG goes into Jamieson Stadium to take on the defending 4-A State Champs, and Grimsley has been missing DL Travis Shaw, but the Whirlies are still loaded…They had that Clyburn kid pick off three Pinecrest passes last week, and the Whirlies’ offense has been spreading the wealth around, and senior QB Alonza Barnett III has been doing the spreading to his WR’s Tyson Resper, Alex Taylor, Tyrell Anderson, and to his top RB, Jeiel Melton…SEG comes at you with a very stout Falcon defense, led by Alex McCalop, and he gets help from others including Grant Stevens, Camber Alcorn, Jordan Dollard, Nick Caldwell, Jordan Farmer, and Prince Reid…Their defense looks/seems to be the strength for the Falcons…The SEG offense gets rolling behind their QB Bryson Serrano, and the big-play man for the SEG offense, is RB/SB/WR Cam Williams…Williams will surely draw a lot of attention from the Grimsley defense..Big Metro 4-A Conference game tonight, at Jamieson Stadium…

Southwest Guilford(2-1) at Page(0-3)
Page has gone winless so far this Fall Football season of 2021, and the Pirates appear to be ready to break out and pick up a win soon…Should see more and more of freshman Jerron Blackwell at QB for the Pirates, and he will be targeting Grady Sherrill, Delontae Deloatch, and Adonis Payton…Will also look for Nick Williamson at QB for Page…Blackwell the right-hander, and Williamson, the left-hander….Page will use their power-running game featuring RB’s Trevon Hester, and PJ Thompson…Page ought to be able to get the ball rolling/moving, but Southwest Guilford will be no slouch on defense…Kyler Puckett has been a standout defensive player for the Cowboys, and so has Isaiah Mickens…Puckett on the DL, and Mickens in the defensive backfield..We ought to see Joey McGinnis IV paving the way for the SWG offense…McGinnis accounted for four touchdowns in last week’s win by the Cowboys, over WS Reynolds…Corbin Wilson is a very reliable receiver for McGinnis and the SWG ‘O’….This is the first Metro 4-A Conference game for both of these teams, and it should be a doozy…This game can be heard on GreensboroSports Radio, with the Sprinkle Oil pregame at 6:50, and the SayYes Guilford kickoff coming at 7:30pm….Our Murphy Wainer Orthopedics Game of the Week on GreensboroSports Radio…

Northern Guilford(3-0) at Ragsdale(0-3)
This should be all Northern Guilford, in this matchup of two more Metro 4-A Conference foes…NG has a very balanced offense with QB Jack Mercer leading the way right now…Terrell Timmons and Manny Elliot make for two very solid outside receivers, and Jordan McInnis has been the featured workhorse at running back, for the Nighthawks…Northern will need to make sure they don’t underestimate the Ragsdale Tigers, the Tigers might be in a very bad mood after last week’s whipping they took from the Eastern Guilford Wildcats, 47-0…Ragsdale will have to establish some offense and that might be a tough task for the Tigers going against the ‘Hawks..

Western Guilford(1-1) at Northwest Guilford(2-1)
Yet, another Metro 4-A Conference battle between two teams that have never liked each other one bit….Only about 6 miles separate these two teams, depending on which way you are running, and these kids really do have it out for each other…The team that plays with the most focus and composure will wind up winning this NWG-WG war….Conner Ballou has been getting better each week for the NWG Vikings at QB, and WG must put pressure on Ballou, and make him get rid of the ball early/quickly and they also need to force him to break his containment, and push him out of his passing pocket…Any added pressure that Western can put on Ballou, will help the help the Hornets’ cause in this contest…But, WG must make sure that they keep it clean, in their efforts to throw Ballou off course…He has been a tough little cookie, and seems to have been thriving under the pressure, of these big Varsity ballgames…NWG with Isaiah Simmons at RB and at LB, can control Western, and Simmons will look to have a big night on both sides of the ball….WG has two QB’s with Hargrove and Kashbara and they will both have to be ready to be very mobile in this game…WG has very good corp of receivers, plus Bryson Moore at RB…NWG has Bristol Carter, a young man that can burn you from many different angles and directions…Carter on a punt return, and Carter on a fly pattern, he will be gone in less than 60 seconds…Trent Cloud makes for Ballou’s primary target, and Jake Sowards give Ballou a steady receiver for the dump-off/short passes…Gonna be a WAR with NWG and WG, and the team that can not control their emotions, will not be happy at the end of the night…Walt Turner, and that big NWG offensive line will also be hard for the Hornets to handle..

High Point Central(1-2) at Dudley(2-1)
Dudley has always like to run the ball, and in this game I think they will be able to run and throw the ball both….Dudley’s backs will be very hard for HPC to catch and to tackle…Mike Shaw, RJ Baker, KJ Morehead and QB Jahmier Slade ought to be able to run to their max in the contest, and if Mehki Wall is healthy again, he will have his chances to ring the bell too….Wall as a runner, receiver, jet-sweeper, Wildcat QB, return man, take your pick…Dudley may have to call off the dogs and go to the reserves early in this one, if the Panthers are ready to play Dudley Panthers Football…Last game out, Dudley lost at Durham Hillside, and Dudley will not want to see a landslide hit them again, during the regular season…All Dudley all night long in this game, and if not, I have fallen off of my rocker…The Panthers will ‘Rock On’, and I don’t see Dudley having too many major challenges during the conference portion of their schedule….

Eastern Guilford(1-1) at Northeast Guilford(0-3)
Eastern Guilford has become a force to be reckoned with after last week’s Wildcat whipping of the Ragsdale Tigers…EG has a boatload of talent, and last week, they learned how to unleash that talent from within, and the ‘Cats played the complete game vs. Ragsdale…Northeast has struggled and EG with Tyreik Boyd leading the way on the offensive side of the ball, and Braxton Vega doing major damage, as he leads the charges on the Eastern Guilford defense….Northeast is rebuilding and Eastern Guilford has assembled a team of demolitionists, that can tear down your building…

Smith(1-2) at WS Atkins(0-2)
Smith needs a cure for their two most recent losses after the Golden Eagles opened up their season with a convincing win/victory over the High Point Andrews Red Raiders…Smith might just find that remedy when they go over to WS Atkins tonight…Smith with a win, and the Atkins Camels, trying to get over the hump, and enter the “Winner’s Circle”…Smith has some talent and the Eagles need that talent to “Rise Up” on this Friday night…

Rockingham County(1-1) at Southern Guilford(1-2)
I still believe Southern Guilford is better than that (1-2) record shows us, and last week vs. Southeast Guilford, the Storm jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, before the Falcons woke up and took the stick to the Storm…SEG beat them up pretty bad in the second half, but SG still will give teams fits this season, when they get their young QB Jamias Ferere going mobile, and when Rydell Herbin can start running downhill…SG also has to harness and harvest all of that energy that DeCory Covington brings to the stadium…Southern has to find a way to cut down on costly penalties and overall mistakes in order for the Storm to be successful…Here’s hoping the Storm can get off to a good start tonight, and that they will keep their foot on the gas pedal all night long…

Reidsville(3-0) at High Point Andrews(1-2)
Reidsville, did you say Reidsville??? We have Reidsville???? Yes, that Reidsville….Andrews has a tall task ahead of them, but in the past, Andrews has played some of their best games, when they are facing their toughest competition…This will be a BIG one here…If Reidsville comes out hot, it could be a long and warm night, in and around the furnace, that is Simeon Stadium, in High Point…Not a real life furnace, but something similar to it, if HP Andrews doesn’t figure out a way to slow down the Reidsville Rams…This has LONG NIGHT written all over it, and we will see if that proves to be the case…Good luck to the Red Raiders, but they may need to ‘Channel Up’ the Spirit of Paul Revere and the Raiders, if they hope to stay with the Reidsville Rams on this Friday night…Reidsville has more athletes that you will see on most big-school 4-A teams…
