Danny Pigge’s Pigskin Preview and our Murphy Wainer Orthopedics Game of the Week, with our SayYes Guilford kickoff

Friday night football coming up tonight…
(All games set to begin at 7:30pm, unless otherwise listed.)

Southeast Guilford(2-2) at Northern Guilford(4-0)
This is our Game of the Week on GreensboroSports Radio…Game time is 7:30 with our SayYes Guilford kickoff….This again is our Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio….Sprinkle Oil pregame starts at 6:50pm…..
This should make for a real battle here at Johnny Roscoe Stadium…NG has the total offensive package, and Southeast Guilford is defined by their defense…SEG’s calling card is their defense, with names like Alex McCalop and Jordan Dollard up front, Camber Alcorn and Grant Stevens are very strong at linebacker, the the secondary features Nick Caldwell, Cam Williams and Jordan Farmer, as mainstays…

That total package for the Northern Guilford offense showcases the Nighthawks’ quarterback Jack Mercer…Mercer has gone 46-74 passing so far this season for 856 yards, with 16 TD passes/3 Interceptions…NG running back Jordan McInnis has carried the ball 38 times for 435 yards and 6 touchdowns…McInnis also has 8 receptions for 159 yards and two more TD’s…Top Nighthawk receiver Terrell Timmons has 15 receptions for 306 yards and 5 TD’s…Give NG’s Manny Elliott 13 receptions of 312 yards and he has scored 6 TD’s…Northern tight end Vance Bolyard had 7 receptions for 105 yards and 2 TD’s….Plus you have Zion Crawford with 6 receptions for 79 yards and two more TD’s…That is some kind of Total Package on offense for Northern Guilford…

There is going to be a real good battle between the NG offense and the SEG defense…Be sure to join us for the game on GreensboroSports Radio

One weapon that I really like from SEG is their kicker/punter Aiden Bonde…This kid gives SEG an edge in the kicking game, and he can play a key role in the outcome of this game, if he gets rolling..NG’s Terrell Timmons has 248 yards on Punt Returns, plus Timmons returned two punts for touchdowns in the Nighthawks’ win last Friday at Ragsdale….
(We expect to see Joe Sirera, from the News and Record/HSXtra.com at this game.)

Grimsley(4-0) at Northwest Guilford(3-1)
This game can be heard with Dave Polaski and Drew Brackett on 600AM and on 93.7FM…
Grimsley’s quarterback Alonza Barnett III for the season:65-113 passing/1042 yards/14 Touchdown passes/0 Interceptions..4 games with 260.5 passing yards per game….Barnett has become the true leader of the Grimsley offense…Tamorye Thompson continues to lead the Grimsley defense, and we saw Travis Shaw was dressed out last week for Southeast Guilford, but not sure if he played…

Conversely on offense for Northwest Guilford, their sophomore quarterback Tanner Ballou has gone 68-107 passing, for 1,061 yards, with 12 TD’s and 6 interceptions…LB Xavier Simmons is the top NWG rusher with 268 yards on 32 carries and three TD’s…Three very steady receivers for NWG with junior Bristol Carter hauling in 12 passes for 407 yards and four scores…For soph. WR Trent Cloud the numbers go 28 receptions for 334 yards and five touchdowns..NWG tight end Jake Sowards with 7 receptions for 158 yards and one TD catch….

Grimsley will counter with their RB Jeiel Melton carrying the ball 62 times for 311 yards and one TD on the ground…QB Barnett has proven to be a threat that can run going for 186 yards on 33 carries, for two touchdowns…Top Grimsley receiver is Tyrell Anderson with 21 receptions for 374 yards and 5 TD’s…Then you have Tyson Resper with 17 receptions for 258 yards and five TD’s…Alex Taylor for the Whirlies with 11 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns…Melton has caught nine balls for 118 yards for Grimsley…

Grimsley has the edge in experience…With the senior Barnett III running the Grimsley offense and senior DE Tamorye Thompson running the Grimsley defense you have to give the edge to the Whirlies…Grimsley knows how to win these big games, and NWG is still learning how to do this, but NWG has come a long way, and the Vikings will upset somebody before this season is over…Grimsley’s experience is going to be a big plus in this game…

Page(1-3) at Ragsdale(1-3)
Page has come a long way this season with their two-headed QB system, and you have Nick Williamson and Jerron Blackwell running the show behind center, and Trevon Hester running the ball at RB…Hester is really the ebb and flow of this Pirate team…Page lost PJ Thompson to injury last week vs. Southwest Guilford, and Hester picked up his pace, and left his mark with three TD runs…Blackwell had right at 102 yards in punt return yardage, and was setting up Page for TD’s, or great field position…Blackwell is the star in the making at Page High School…Grady Sherrill at WR, is a great target for the two QB’s, and Devontae Deloatch is one of the best big receivers in our area…Deloatch is very strong after the catch, and he picks up extra yardage that some receivers will not get….Page has the opportunity to improve to (2-0) in the Metro 4-A with a win tonight, and there is a very good chance that they will get that win…Some of the same Page leaders on offense are your Page leaders on defense, and add in Parker Maynard to the defensive mix…Adonis Payton is another key cog for the Page Pirates…We still don’t much about the Ragsdale Tigers, but we know they have struggled early in this season…

Southwest Guilford(2-2) at Western Guilford(1-3)
Joey McGinnis IV is man that runs this machine for the SWG Cowboys…McGinnis had the leave the game with injury last week at Page, and SWG was not the same team without McGinnis…Cam McCain has become a very strong runner for the Cowboys and I don’t remember him putting the ball on the ground last week…Top receiver is Darius Hairston, and he can take the ball in from either side of the field, or from coming across the field…Most consistent WG Hornet so far this season has been Bryson Moore…One week Moore is getting it done on defense, and the next week, he is keying in and leading the defense…Moore keeps on doing more and more for WG…

Southern Guilford(1-3) at Northeast Guilford(0-4)
Southern Guilford needs to approach this game like it is their first game of the season…Head back to the drawing board and come out with your best stuff…Ferere fully in at QB and Herbin running like it is his last game of his career every week now, and Jayden White running like he is the back of the future….NEG with a long way to go, but this might be the kind of game where the Rams can break out and get a win…This is Week 6 and if you haven’t won a game by now, the road to Victory Road, is getting long…

Dudley(3-1) at WS Atkins(1-2)
Dudley should be seeing the running clock on the first play of the second half, just like they were doing last week vs. High Point Central, a game the Panthers won 57-0…Dudley can duplicate that outcome this week, and you should see names like Slade, Wall, Shaw, Baker, Morehead, Newkirk all showing up big for the Panthers on offense…Jhyheem Pittman, Logan Wright, Kafi Abass, Austin Lloyd, Jeremiah Barnes, Steven Davis II, Shawn Seagraves and others showing up on defense…

Rockingham County(2-1) at Smith(1-3)
Might be wrong, but in past years, this would be looked upon as a winnable game for Smith, but not sure about this year..

High Point Andrews (1-2) at McMichael(2-2)
Andrews has missed games due to COVID, so it has been hard for the Red Raiders to find any consistency here in 2021…Never thought we would say that McMichael has a good chance to knock off HP Andrews, but that might be the case here on this Friday night…

Covenant Day(1-2) at High Point Christian Academy(2-1) 7pm
Giving the advantage out to the Cougars of HP Christian, and hoping that our leaning, will lead to them winning….
