Prat’s Brace Powers HPU WSOC Panthers to First Win

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University Women’s soccer team defeated Charleston Southern 4-0 Saturday afternoon inside Vert Stadium in HPU’s second Big South game of the year. The 4-0 victory over CSU was High Point’s first win of the year, Salomé Prat led the way for HPU in scoring with two goals in the win, her first two of the year. HPU Defender Alex Deperno recorded the first multi-assist game of her career as she supplied two in the 4-0 win.

Brandi Fontaine: “We were extremely proud of the group this afternoon, this is a win we really needed mainly for confidence reasons. The girls have been working really hard, especially on our finishing this week and executing things. It was good to see them pull out this win after all the work we have been doing.”

Panther Particulars

Shaylyn Owen started the Panthers off with a shot in the 3rd minute, off of the Deperno free-kick. Owen nearly started the scoring for HPU as CSU’s goalkeeper initially blocked the shot and then made the save.

In the 8th minute, Magdalena Schwarz found the back of the net for the Panthers’ first of the contest. she was assisted by Emily Mashinski. It marked Schwarz’s second straight game with a goal. Mashinski recorded the third point of her freshman season adding an assist to the goal she scored earlier this season against JMU.

In the 26th minute, Skyler Prillaman kept the pressure on the Bucs and added another to the Panthers’ lead. This was assisted by Alex Deperno, her first of two on the day. Prillaman was able to track down a ball sent into the Bucs’ box from the other end of the field off the foot of Deperno. Prillaman finished it for her second of the year.

In the 42nd minute, Prat broke away from the defense to score and put the Panthers up 3. This was also from Deperno, her second assist of the day.

In the 76th minute, Prat found her second of the day, off a feed from Emma Schossler. This put the Panthers up 4-0.

HPU outshot the Bucs 14-4 applying pressure on the Charleston Southern defense throughout all 90 minutes of the contest. Today’s 4-0 win in regulation over CSU broke the matchup’s history of overtime finishes after the previous two meetings went to extra time.
