HPU Volleyball Sweeps PC En Route to 24th Consecutive Big South Win

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team secured its second win of the weekend via a 3-0 sweep against Presbyterian College as the Panthers acquired their 24th consecutive Big South Win on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16). Freshman Sydney Palazzolo led the way for HPU in kills with 16 in the win for the Purple & White for the second straight day. Palazzolo had 32 kills this weekend over the two Big South wins. Dylan Maberry followed up her 13 kill performance from the night before with 12 in the win over PC.

Panther Particulars

High Point jumped out to a 6-1 run to start the first set, Maria Miggins recorded a kill to give HPU a 7-2 lead.

Palazzolo kept the run going with a kill of her own, then a PC attacking error caused a Blue Hose time out as HPU led 9-2.

Miggins had four kills early in the first set as she put HPU up 12-4.

PC created a 4-0, it was then snapped by a Madison Smith kill as HPU took a 13-8 lead.

The Blue Hose worked their way back in the game to get within one of HPU as the Panthers led 21-20 late in the first set. Palazzolo gave HPU two critical kills that gave HPU a 23-20 advantage.

PC tied the set at 23, an Idlebrid-Smith block then an Idlebird kill gave HPU the two points they needed as High Point took Set 1 25-23.

HPU took another healthy lead early this time in the second set. A Maberry kill put the Panthers up 12-6 in the second.

A Miggins ace made it 14-7 in the second set.

Palazzolo continued to be a scoring force for the Panthers as the match went on her kill in the second set gave HPU a 17-14 lead.

Palazzolo picked up her 11th kill of the day with a kill for the second set point as HPU won set 2 25-22.

Idlebird put HPU up 6-2 to start the third set. Forcing a PC timeout.

Palazzolo provided two kills in HPU’s 5-0 run to end the third set.

Jenny Wessling supplied a service ace on match point as HPU swept PC picking up their 24th straight Big South win.
