High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind:Luke Lyddon leaving WFMY Sports and headed to the Arizona market(High School Football Playoff Projections and Predictions for you)

Busy night last night, and with Grimsley over Page, 52-22, and Southeast Guilford topping Northwest Guilford, 17-15, and with both Dudley and Eastern Guilford taking care of their business, we have some great games looming in the future for the last night of the regular season…With Grimsley at Northern Guilford, Page at Southeast Guilford and Dudley at Eastern Guilford, next Friday night, October 29, shows signs of being a super schedule of regular season finales….

And speaking of last nights, last night was the last night for Luke Lyddon, the WFMY NEWS Sports director…He announced after the Friday Football Fever Show, that he is leaving Greensboro for Arizona…Heading back closer to home, and it might be in the Phoenix area…He did good job at WFMY TV 2, and came on board for Patrick Wright, who left for Elon University, and Patrick followed Liz Crawford at WFMY, after she followed her husband, Grant Gilmore, to Florida…

And none of the above WFMY Sports directors would have been worth their weight in salt, without the expertise that was shown them by the WFMY NEWS 2/WFMY Sports videographer Brian Hall….Without the work of Brian Hall, WFMY News 2 Sports would not be a real factor in this market….The work that Brian Hall does just on Twitter, his work puts WFMY News 2 Sports, on the local sports map….Brian Hall ought to be in some sort of ‘Hall’ of Fame one day….

Now that we have rewound the recent history of WFMY NEWS 2 Sports, and we can also say that Luke Lyddon was really a very big hockey fan, and you could tell it in his sports reports, well what do you say we begin the High School Football Rewind for today….

**********Unicorn Game in Charlotte last night, with South Meck over Myers Park, 3-0….**********
It was a high school sports version of a unicorn — a you-won’t-see-this-again event.

In the world of spread offenses operating at warp speed, South Mecklenburg’s 3-0 victory Friday night at Myers Park was football from another era.

“I guess you don’t see stuff like this any more,” South Mecklenburg head coach Joe Evans said after his Sabres shut out one of the area’s most explosive offenses.

Myers Park has scored 221 points this season. Before Friday night, that was an average of 27.6 points a game. Quarterback Lucas Lenhoff had thrown for more than 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Myers Park had outscored the Sabres 144-6 in the last three meetings. “Did I expect a game like this?” Evans said in responding to a question. “Well, we have a really good defense, and they (Mustangs) are solid defensively. I guess 3-0 isn’t very sexy football, but I’m happy with it.”

  1. All your talk about is Grimsley Football. For the last 4 weeks in been all the coverage has been Grimsley Football JV and Varsity. I guess next week its going to be all about Grimsley vs Northern. Its other football teams in the city.

  2. Not rooting for either one of those teams but get better and maybe there will be much more to talk about.

  3. Well I mean we are the defending State Champs and have beaten every team we faced by a large margin…what’s not to love ?

  4. Unless we are missing something here, the top games for next week will be Northern Guilford at Northwest Guilford Middle School on Wednesday, then Eastern Guilford at Dudley JV’s on Thursday, then Grimsley at Northern Guilford varsity on Friday…
Northern and Northwest Middle School teams both unbeaten, Dudley JV unbeaten, Eastern Guilford JV with one loss, Grimsley and Northern Guilford varsity teams, both Unbeaten…
Those look like some really big matchups right there….

  5. Eastern Guilford varsity is playing for a conference championship on friday against Dudley. Both teams are 8-1. And Grimsley haven’t played every school in the city. So can’t say they the best team in the city.

  6. The first guess would be Amanda Ferguson will take over as the #1 lead Sports Anchor, and the #2 person would be Jaylen Gilkey, or the fellow who co-hosted the sports back on Saturday night….The guy from Saturday has a great wealth of knowledge on Carolina Panthers football and on pro football in general…Jaylen Gilkey has been helping with the Friday Night Fever Show….He was co-hosting the sports, with Amanda Ferguson on Sunday evening…
