HIGH POINT, NC – The High Point University men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Campbell. It was the first draw in Big South play for the Camels and just the third time they have been shut out all year. HPU joins Elon and UNC as the three teams who have shut out CU in the fall of 2021.

Both High Point and Campbell remain as the only unbeaten Big South teams this season. Holden Trent and the Panther defense earned their seventh clean sheet of the season. With the draw, the Panthers clinch the #2 seed in the Big South Tournament securing a spot in the semifinals and home-field advantage for the Big South Semifinals.

Zach Haines: We are very pleased with the performance, keeping a clean sheet against Campbell is always a great achievement. They are a team that does really well in the attack and has scored a lot of goals this season. They have only been held scoreless now three times this season and to do it without Finn Mcrobb, MD Myers, Ashton Perkins, and a number of other guys was impressive. We knew it was going to be a challenge tonight fortunately we had a lot of guys step up and defended extremely well. But we also had some great chances to win the game. All in all, a really good performance it’s something we can take into our game with Asheville and then the Big South Conference Tournament.

Panther Particulars

Sebastian Chalbaud provided the best scoring opportunity for the Panthers in the first off with a shot coming off of a Mason Marcey corner.

The Panthers outshot the Camels in the first half 6-5.

HPU had a pair of chances off free kicks to start the second half, in the 49th minute Caco Fernandez had his shot go just high and wide. In the 53rd minute, Chalbaud had his shot saved as it was headed for a post.

In the 110th minute, Marcey had what was the chance of the night as Nick Phipps sent it into the box and it made its way to Fernandez who passed it over to Marcey. Marcey struck the ball hard but at the Campbell keeper who was able to secure it in the final moments of the contest.

HPU held a Campbell team that has scored 43 goals this season scoreless for 110 minutes of play on Saturday (Oct. 30) night.

High Point’s defense has been nothing short of impressive this season only allowing one goal in Big South play. Campbell has allowed the second-fewest with a total of four. The Panthers will play one more Big South game next week.
