HPU Women’s Basketball picks up 109-38 win over MACU

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team picked up a 109-38 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian in the Qubein Center. The victory wraps up a four-straight game period in the Qubein Center.

Callie Scheier led HPU with 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting from behind the arc. Hayley Berfield, Nakyah Terrell, and Lalmani Simmons also scored in double figures as the Panthers shot 54.1 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three-point land.

Chelsea Banbury: “I’m really happy to see us shoot the ball so well and have contributions from a variety of players. I was the most happy with our 32 assists and 8 turnovers. The girls did a great job of sharing the ball and taking care of it. This was a good team win.”

Panther Particulars

7-0 run to open the game with two layups from Jensen Edwards and a three-pointer from Nakyah Terrell.

After a string of free throws, Cydney Johnson found Jordan Edwards for a dribble drive around two MACU defenders to extend the Panther lead to 23-4.

Three Panthers netted three-pointers in the last two minutes of the half, including a Callie Scheier triple right before the buzzer.

HPU opened up the third quarter with a 12-2 run in the first four minutes to extend the lead to 66-19.

Scheier hit back-to-back-to-back three-pointers in the quarter to help the Panthers to an 87-28 lead heading into the final period.

HPU closed things out in the fourth quarter to bring home a 109-38 win.
