Former New York Giants and Washington Redskins linebacker Sam Huff has died…Huff was 87 years old, and he is in the NFL Hall of Fame, after his work with the Giants and the ‘Skins, as their middle linebacker…

Huff was part of the Washington Redskins radio broadcast team for nearly 40 years…The radio football announce team of Frank Herzog, Sonny Jurgensen and Sam Huff, was considered by many football fans as being the best football announcing team of all-time…

It was great on Sunday afternoons to be able to sit back and listen to Sonny, Sam, and Frank call those Washington Redskins’ games…They were an iconic team of announcers…They seem to fit so well, with the games they were calling/announcing…

Huff spent three seasons working as a color commentator for the Giants on radio before moving over to a similar job with Washington, where he spent 38 years calling games, starting in 1975.

From 1981 to 2012, his broadcasting partner was a former Washington teammate, quarterback Sonny Jurgensen. They called all three of Washington’s Super Bowl titles.

“Anyone who knew Sam knew what an amazing person he was,” WFT owners Tanya and Dan Snyder said in a statement. “He was an iconic player and broadcaster for the franchise for over 40 years and was a great friend to our family. He represented the franchise with honor and respect on the field and in the booth and was beloved by our fans. Tanya and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to all of Sam’s family and friends during this time.”
