Friday Night Finish:Stalemate in the First Half of Dudley-Kings Mountain/Statement from Dudley in the Second Half, as Panthers run wild

Could have been a Second Half statement for Statesville, as the Dudley Panthers ran wild inside “The Tarp”/Tarpley Stadium on Friday night, in the Panthers win over the Kings Mountain Mountaineers…

The first half was purely a stalemate, with the score being all tied up at 7-each for Dudley and Kings, headed into the locker room at halftime…

Kings Mountain was able to move the ball through the air in the first half, as KM QB Lamont Littlejohn found his receivers open and he was able to hit them for positive yardage..,

But, the Dudley Panthers took the opening kickoff to begin the second half, and the Panthers drove the ball down the field…They got big chunk yardage with a 52-yard run from Michael Shaw, a 49-yard run from RJ Baker, and a 50-yard run from Mehki Wall, and all of those long runs resulted in Dudley touchdowns…

Dudley came out running in the second half, and they were running wild….Found out a long time ago, it is hard to stop what you can’t catch, and the Mountaineers were getting winded just watching the Dudley Panthers take off and run the distance to the end zone, let alone trying to catch one of the Panthers…It just wasn’t going to happen…

And while Mehki Wall was playing offense like he was at local track meet, he also was able to find the time to plug a hole in the Dudley defense…Wall picked off a key Kings Mountain pass early in the second half, just when the Mountaineers had marched on down to the Dudley nine-yard line, and with the Mountaineers facing second-and-goal from the Dudley nine, Dudley’s Wall picked off the ball, and denied KM entry into the end zone from deep in Dudley territory….

Dudley has no part of letting the Kings Mountain offense get started in the second half…Passes that Lamont Littlejohn was completing were falling to the ground, and coming up short in the second half…Logan Wright and Jhyheem Pittman were controlling the line of scrimmage, and they were spending most of their time in the Kings Mountain offensive backfield, and constantly applying pressure to Littlejohn, as he tried in vain to run the offense…Pittman and Wright were in there all right, and they were ruling the night…

Dudley made key adjustments at halftime in this game, and when Dudley came back for the second half, it was like they saw something they could attack, and the Panthers took to the ground to do it…..Michael Shaw with 119 yards rushing, RJ Baker with 116 yards rushing, Mehki Wall with 65 yards rushing…That’s 300 yards rushing right there for you…The 52-yard TD by Shaw, the 49-yard TD run by Baker, and the 50-yard touchdown run by Wall, and that’s 151 yards and half of that 300 yard total right there, coming on those LONG TD runs…

Dudley was simply playing a different brand of football in the second half of tonight’s game…The Dudley defense was ferocious and the Dudley offense was fleet of feet…Players of the Game on Offense from Steak n Shake are Mehki Wall, RJ Baker and Michael Shaw…On the Defensive side of the ball, you have to give it up to Jhymeem Pittman and Logan Wright as Steak n Shake Players of the Game…

Dudley at Statesville next Friday night, and the Panthers on to Round Four of the NCHSAA 3-A football playoffs….

  1. I loved to been sitting in that Dudley locker room at Halftime, to hear how Coach Davis addressed his team and made adjustments. From the opening 3rd quarter drive you could see the energy and determination from the Panthers to put this game out of reach and take command. Kings Mountain had to have felt proud to had a tied 7-7 game at the half, but after Dudley scored on their first 2 drives in the 3rd and stopped their offense, you could see Kings Mountains hearts sinking realizing Dudley amp up their game.

  2. Andy, any rumblings on area Basketball? The Big 4 Tipoff classic is tomorrow showcasing Page, Grimsley, Smith, and Dudley.

  3. Might have been some paint coming off of those walls in the Dudley locker room on Friday night…But really some great adjustments by Dudley….Go back to what brung you there, as they used to say….When it is clicking, the diversified Dudley ground game is very hard to stop, and all of the pieces are so fast, when those backs and receivers start running…
On the basketball, we all need to show up on Monday night, and see what they got/have…Grimsley has that young freshman to watch in Zack Wiggins, but he must have been inside the house today watching football…I was over there across the street from his place on Sunday afternoon, and I was out there shooting the basketball, but he must have been inside of the house watching football and getting focused for Monday night…Freshman Jerron Blackwell for Page will be another kid to keep and eye on….I know Page has Devontae Deloatch back, they have the senior college-bound Josh Scovens, there is Grady Sherrill and they have more…Grimsley also has sophomore Alex Taylor, senior Tyler Albright, they have Watlington, Wall and more…Dudley has a load of kids back from last year’s team, and Smith returns just about everybody, and they had a ton of surprise kids last year, plus Smith has the freshman C.J. Neely and he is one to watch, a very good athlete….
Just a few names for you, now get out there and check out these kids…
