Let’s look at a few things today that get our attention when we begin studying the South Point Red Raiders, from Belmont, N.C.

South Point at (11-3) overall and they finished at (3-2) in their conference behind Kings Mountain and Crest…South Point lost to Kings Mountain and Crest in back-to-back weeks, back in October, falling to Crest 27-26, and the Red Raiders were tripped up by Kings Mountain, 24-7…

South Point topped the Eastern Guilford Wildcats, 41-31, in Round One of the NCHSAA playoffs, while Dudley defeated Eastern Guilford, 42-3, back in the regular season…One more like opponent for Dudley and South Point, as we saw that SP 24-7 loss to Kings Mountain in the regular season, and Dudley knocked off Kings Mountain, 36-10, in Round Three of this year’s playoffs…

This past Friday night, in South Point’s 34-27 overtime win over Crest, the SP Red Raiders attempted just 6 passes, and they completed 3 of them, for 84 yards…The SP QB was Elijah Phifer and had no TD tosses, and he was intercepted one time…But, and this is a big but, South Point’s Phifer ran the ball 21 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns….We told you that South Point threw the ball just six times, but the Red Raiders ran the ball a total of 55 times and they ran as a team, for a total of 316 yards….

The Red Raiders’ leading rusher, Tyson Riley ran the ball 21 times for 113 yards and two TD’s….Cam Medlock ran the ball 10 times for 90 yards for South Point….

On the season, South Point has run the ball 670 times and in turn, they have passed the ball just 48 times….They call the South Point offense, “The Redbone Offense”…..

Tyson Riley has run the football an amazing 351 times for 2,371 yards, and 33 touchdowns…A busy man right there for you…Tyson “AJ” Riley, and he wears #31…For the Dudley Panthers, time to get that number locked in, in their memory banks…#31 Tyson Riley, from the South Point Red Raiders, and the Panthers will have to be aware of Phifer and Medlock too…

Again, versus Crest, South Point ran the ball 55 times, and they chose to throw the football just six times….Medlock with 403 rushing yards on the season, and Phifer with 333 yards on the ground, on the year….Jackson Blee, for South Point, with 10 receptions, for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns on the season…

Notes from the Crest game, from the Gaston Gazette:
Player of the game: South Point’s Phifer. The Red Raiders’ quarterback finished 4-for-6 passing for 86 yards, along with 21 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the contest.
