Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Page Boys Basketball

Final Score:Page 46, Southwest Guilford 40

The Cowboys hit the road again to start off conference play in the extremely tough Metro 4A league. Tonight’s battle was against the hosting Pirates of Page High School. The Cowboys were hoping to keep some positive momentum going into tonight’s important clash.

Tis the Christmas season, and the Cowboys certainly were in the giving spirit starting out. Southwest struggled to keep possession, make shots, nor get any defensive resistance in the opening frame. The ugly quarter closed with the Pirates holding a strong 11-3 advantage.

It wasn’t until the 6:30 mark that Southwest managed another basket, which cut the lead to 15-6. The Cowboys managed to play slightly better and only trailed 20-13 at the break.

The visiting Cowboys started to put some possessions together and battled back in the third stanza. Some quality defense and finally putting the ball through the hoop allowed Southwest to roar back to tighten up the ballgame as the frame ended with Page holding a slim 30-28 lead.

The offensively inept game continued in dramatic fashion as the Cowboys managed to open the frame with a run that gave them their first lead on the night at 32-30. The teams traded baskets from there, and Southwest led 34-32. The Cowboys started to run out of steam and couldn’t maintain as the Pirates managed a couple more plays down the stretch, and the Cowboys couldn’t hit free throws as they fell 46-40 on the road.

The Pirates were led by Josh Scoven with 19 points. Southwest was paced by Amarya Huggins with (10, 5 Stls, 4 Asts, 3 Rebs), and Corbin Wilson with (10, 4 Rebs, 2 Stls).
