Buffalo Bills fans were understandably disheartened to see quarterback Josh Allen sporting a walking boot following Sunday’s overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott offered somewhat of a positive update on the signal-caller’s status on Monday.

Per Grant Gordon of the league’s website, McDermott told reporters Allen has a foot sprain and is considered day-to-day. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport adds Allen also has “a mild case of turf toe.”

Allen played through the issues on Sunday and completed 36-of-54 passes for 308 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 109 yards and a score on 12 attempts.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, McDermott said Allen could potentially start for this coming Sunday’s home game against the Carolina Panthers but that he doesn’t know if his QB1 will be on the practice field Wednesday. As of right now, backup Mitchell Trubisky would be atop the depth chart for that practice session if Allen is a spectator:

The Bills have lost three of four to fall to 7-6 and are in danger of missing out on the playoffs, so it seems likely Allen will do whatever possible to stay in the lineup even if he’s less than 100% by the weekend.
