The Los Angeles Chargers took a touchdown lead twice in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes responded to both with game-tying touchdown drives of his own. Then in overtime, Mahomes needed just 75 seconds to put the game on ice with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce.

Mahomes, 26, finished Thursday night with a season-high 410 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Kelce had a career-best 191 receiving yards on 10 receptions, and his overtime-winner was his second touchdown of the game.

Mistakes and missed opportunities defined the game through the first three quarters. The Chargers were stopped on three of five attempts to convert on fourth down, including twice inside the Chiefs’ 5-yard line. Kansas City blew a fourth down of its own near the goal line when Mahomes missed a wide-open Mecole Hardman in the flat.

Both offenses came alive in the fourth quarter, though. Mahomes and Justin Herbert traded touchdown drives late in the game, and Mahomes completed three of his five passes in overtime for 75 yards.

The Chiefs improved to 10-4 with the win and climbed to the top spot in the AFC for the time being. The Chargers dropped to 8-6 and remain the top AFC wild-card team.
