New Western Guilford Athletics Hall of Fame members
Dr. James “Doc” Brewer…Doctor Brewer was my doctor from age 7 up until around age 37….He gave us our team physicals prior to every football season…All of those physicals were free of charge to the school and to the athletes, and Doctor Brewer was on the sidelines for all of the home football games, at Western Guilford High School…He kept on telling me let him do something about that cut above my nose, that got busted up and open every Friday night, but I told him it was a trademark, and we should not mess with a traditional cut or wound…Bleed On…

Coach Bill Hollifield…Coach Hollifield was my football position coach for three years and my wrestling coach for four years…

1985 State Champion Baseball Team…WG-grad Scott Holland was telling me about this team the other day, with a Coach Brett Stell-called suicide squeeze bunt involving Mark Gray and Matt Bowman being a key play, in the Hornets’ State Championship run/drive…

Robert Kent – Class of 72…Former boys basketball coach at Westchester Country Day, Ledford HS, Southwest Guilford HS, and Page HS, and won a State Championship at Southwest Guilford HS…Outstanding basketball player and track and field high-jumper back in his day….His son, Jackson Kent, was an outstanding basketball player in his own right…Robert Kent was on the Guilford College Quakers 1973 NAIA National Championship Basketball Team…

Greg French – Class of 74…Very strong baseball player, basketball player and golfer…

Wendy Ray Schultz – Class of 80…Didn’t know a lot about her, but heard she had superior skills in basketball and track, as a high-jumper….

Scott McAlister – Class of 87…QB and punter for the football team, and he had some pro tryouts, with one of them being with the Philadelphia Eagles as a punter…Also all-star baseball player…

Angela Williams Pitkonen – Class of 89…Did not know, or know about this athlete…
