Reagan sprinted out to a huge first-quarter lead & cruised to a 74-46 win over North Forsyth in the third-place game of the WSFCS bracket of the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic Thursday afternoon at RJ Reynolds High School.
The Raiders, now 7-4 entering the Christmas break, sprinted to an 11-0 lead in the opening two minutes behind the play of freshman guard KJ Ford, who scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the first period. Reagan led by as many as 24 in the first half against the Vikings, now 5-7 with three of their losses coming against the Raiders.
North chipped away at the deficit, cutting the lead to 12 (45-33) near the end of the third quarter and trailed by only 13 (56-43) with four minutes left but sophomore Reagan center Cooper Jackson scored on a three-point play, converted four free throws on a foul/technical sequence and then fired a floor-length pass to Jalil Rogers for a dunk–all within a two-minute span–to expand the lead to 26 (69-43) with two minutes left. The Raiders’ 28-point lead at the close was their largest of the game.
Ford led a balanced scoring effort for Reagan with 17 and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jackson led three other Raiders in double-figures with 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots.
Rogers followed his 25-point performance in the semifinal loss to South Stokes with 14 points and five rebounds while Noah Quarless had his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jack Leonard, whose 22 total rebounds in the three Spencer games matched Quarless for a tournament-high total, added nine points & five rebounds in the win over the Vikings.
Reagan now begins a 10-day break before returning to Central Piedmont Conference play on January 4 at West Forsyth, the first of three games that week. The Raiders entertain North Davidson the following night, then travel to Parkland for a CPC matchup on Friday, January 7.
