Reagan rallied from ten points down in the final period to hold off upset-minded Parkland 73-67 on the Mustangs’ home floor Friday night in Winston-Salem. The Raiders, now 10-4 on the season, trailed 59-49 after leading for much of the game but freshman guard KJ Ford hit two three-pointers and scored on a steal within 90 seconds to start the Reagan rally.
Parkland, which led briefly early, took a 47-46 lead late in the third quarter & stayed ahead despite the late Reagan surge, leading by seven (64-57) with three minutes left. The visiting Raiders continued to chip away at the deficit, cutting the margin to two (65-63) on a Cooper Jackson free throw with 1:41 left.
After a Parkland turnover, Khalic Razzak delivered a perfect pocket-pass to Jackson low for a basket with 1:26 remaining. Jackson was fouled & converted the free throw, giving Reagan the lead for good at 66-65. Jalil Rogers scored on a drive after a Mustangs’ miss and the Raiders’ made free throws down the stretch, including two key shots by Miles Grier with 14 seconds remaining to secure the hard-fought win on Tom Muse Court at PHS.
Ford delivered another stellar performance with 28 points, including 6 three-pointers, and Rogers delivered 16 for the winners. Jackson added 11 points & seven rebounds while Jack Leonard led all rebounds with 13 as Reagan earned +17 margin on the boards.
Christian Williams led the balanced Parkland offense with 13 as five Mustangs scored in double figures. Reagan, now 3-2 in Central Piedmont Conference play, returns to the court Tuesday night at home against Mount Tabor.
