Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams will undoubtedly have a lot of options now that he’s in the transfer portal, including several teams in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff. But it’s the Mid-American Conference’s Eastern Michigan Eagles who jumped into the Williams sweepstakes in an interesting way Thursday morning.

Former Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch said in a tweet that an investment fund called GameAbove Capital will pay Williams $1 million to transfer to Eastern Michigan.

Williams became the Sooners quarterback in October when Spencer Rattler was benched during a game against the Texas Longhorns. He finished his true freshman season with 21 passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns, and four interceptions. Three of his touchdown passes came in a 47-32 win against the Oregon Ducks in the Alamo Bowl.

His decision to enter the transfer portal came after Rattler transferred to South Carolina and Lincoln Riley was hired as head coach of the USC Trojans. In his announcement, Williams said that returning to Oklahoma “will definitely be an option.”

Eastern Michigan finished the 2021 season 7-6 and 4-4 in MAC play. They lost 56-20 to Liberty in The LendingTree Bowl.
