East Forsyth took the lead early, then withstood a late Reagan rally enroute to a 72-63 win over the Raiders in Pfafftown Friday night. In winning their sixth Central Piedmont 4A Conference game in seven outings, the Eagles led by as many as 17 in the second half to push their overall record to 12-3 for the season.

As with their win at home over Reagan in December, the difference for East Forsyth was at the free throw line. In the first CPC meeting between the two teams, the Eagles attempted 20 more free throws than the visitors, behind an aggressive offensive philosophy. In their win at Reagan, East shot 22 more FTs & outscored the Raiders by 12 at the line. The Eagles’ slashing drives yielded 14 two-shot attempts during the game as they built an early second-hand lead that Reagan could not overcome.

The Raiders cut East’s slim second quarter margin to one (25-24) with 3:45 to go in the first half but Matt Joines, who led the Eagles in scoring with 20, converted back-to-back three-point plays on consecutive possessions to stretch the halftime lead back to seven (38-31).

East led by 17 (62-45) with six minutes left but Reagan freshman KJ Ford hit 3 three-pointers around the mid-point of the final period to cut the Eagles’ lead to seven (69-62) with two minutes left, the closest the Raiders got in the second half.

Jalil Rogers led all scorers with 25 points, the fifth time in six games he has scored 20+ points. Ford added 18 for the Raiders, now 3-5 in CPC play. Braxton Stewart & Will Gray added 15 each to Joines’ team-high 20 points and the Eagles’ Carlos Bustos led all rebounders with eight.

Reagan returns to the court Tuesday night at Glenn, the CPC leader, then returns home for a CPC rematch with Davie County.
