BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – This Friday (March 11th) High Point University Track and Field’s Sydney Horn will be competing in her third straight NCAA Track and Field National Championship as she will be in the women’s pole vault final Friday night at 6:45 PM.

The Road to Birmingham

In just her second meet of the 21-22 indoor season, Horn put herself in a position to compete in Birmingham with a mark of 4.34m which gave her the fourth-highest mark in the nation at the time.

Horn put herself firmly in the top-16 to compete in the women’s pole vault final at the 2022 Indoor NCAA National Championships.

On January 29th at the South Carolina Invitational, she further solidified her spot in the women’s pole vault at the National Championship in Birmingham in March as she now holds claim to the fifth-best mark in the nation at 4.40m. In Fayetteville, last March in the women’s pole-vault final her mark of 4.41m was good enough for third. She hit 4.40m in her second attempt then took three quality attempts at 4.50m which would have been the top mark in the nation. She finished second overall and was the top collegiate finisher.

Last Time Out

Horn pulled double duty last week as she was both competing at the Big South Indoor Championships and USTAF Indoor Championships in Spokane, Wash. Horn set a new Big South indoor track and field record in the women’s pole vault and an HPU indoor record as she cleared the 4.42m jump. Horn won her first Big South Indoor title.

At the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Tacoma, Washington Horn finished eighth out of 14 while representing HPU on the national stage. Horn jumped alongside US Olympians and cleared 4.40m in her first go at the bar and then took three strong attempts at 4.50m on 2/27/22.
