Red Sox reportedly join ‘sweepstakes’ for former NL MVP Freddie Freeman

Freeman’s current employer — the Atlanta Braves — seemingly exited the race to re-sign their superstar when they traded for All-Star first baseman Matt Olson on Monday. It was reported last Friday that Freeman was expected to make his free-agency decision within the next 24 hours, but that didn’t come to fruition.
The 32-year-old hit 31 home runs and produced 83 RBIs in 2021, while recording a .300/.393/.503 slash line as well. Over his 12 years in the league, Freeman has collected 271 home runs, 941 RBIs, 969 runs scored, 1,704 hits and 376 doubles, while producing a .295/.384/.509 slash line.
The career-long Braves first baseman has been an All-Star five times — including three of the past four seasons — has won three Silver Slugger awards, one Gold Glove and earned the 2020 NL MVP. Freeman helped lead Atlanta to their first World Series title in 26 years during the 2021 campaign.
