Seegars Named HBCU All-Stars Sam Jones Division II National Player of the Year

Atlanta, GA — Fayetteville State’s Jalen Seegars(High Point Christian Academy/Page High School) has been named the HBCU All-Stars Sam Jones Division II Men’s Basketball National Player of the Year. In addition to the honor, Seegars has been selected to participate in the HBCU All-Star game at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans during the Final Four Championship weekend.

Seegars, the 2022 CIAA Tournament MVP, helped lead Fayetteville State University to its first CIAA Championship since 1973 with a 65-62 victory over Virginia Union in Baltimore, Maryland. Jalen scored 15 points with five rebounds and two assists. He leads the Broncos in scoring with 486 points scored this season and an average of 16.2 points per game. Seegars is second in rebounding (163; 5.4 per game) and blocked shots (37; 1.2 per game). His production during the regular season landed him a spot on the All-CIAA Team.

The HBCU All-Star roster of the country’s top 24 HBCU men’s basketball players was revealed by Travis L. Williams, founder of HBCU All-Stars, LLC, and Cy Alexander, longtime HBCU basketball coach, on CBS Sports HQ on Monday, March 14.

The HBCU All-Star game is a college basketball showcase in New Orleans, Louisiana highlighting the best HBCU players in the country and will be aired on the CBS Television Network and streamed live on Paramount+ on Sunday, April 3 at 4:00 pm ET during Final Four weekend.

With a mission to advocate, educate, expose, mentor and invest in HBCU student-athletes and coaches across the country, the event aims to showcase the best in Black college basketball. Launched by HBCU All-Stars LLC, a Black-owned sports marketing and events company in Atlanta, the HBCU All-Star Game brings much needed exposure, visibility and recognition to outstanding, talented and hardworking HBCU student-athletes and coaches.
