HPU Track Recap: Bill Webb/Bob Davidson 2022

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field finished two days of competition in their first home outdoor meet of the season at the Bill Webb Combined Events/Bob Davidson Memorial Invitational at Vert Stadium. The Bill Webb Combined Events/Bob Davidson Memorial Invitational for the Panther men was highlighted by Deron Dudley and Chris Van Niekerk. Dudley ran a time of 10.22 seconds, which is currently the second-fastest time in the country. Dudley’s time had less than 4.0mph of wind, which makes it legal for possible NCAA regional qualification. Chris Van Niekerk broke his school record in the discus when he threw 58.66m and won the men’s discus.

Panther Particulars

Freddie Allen III won the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.26m.

Jonny House won the men’s 800m run with a time of 1:55.84.

Dudley and Paul Gore finished second and third in the men’s 200m dash with personal best times of 20.80 and 20.99 respectively.

Evan Mills won the men’s decathlon with a personal best of 6,378 points.

Fellow Panthers Tucker Conine, Brandon Lewis, Stephen Binkley, and Felix Leblanc finished in second, fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.

Larry Coaxum finished in third place in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 14.44m.

The Panthers finished 1st through 7th in the men’s 5000m with Hunter Steinau winning, Ian Miller finishing second, and Lorenzo Botter finishing in third.

Trent Strachan set a personal best in the 400m hurdles to finish in eighth place with a time of 55.60.

High Point men’s 4x400m team finished in second place with a time of 3:21.36.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will split their squad for three meets next weekend (March 23-26). The majority of the squad will travel to Raleigh for a distance carnival at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State. A smaller group of Panthers will travel to Texas to compete in two different meets: Texas Relays in Austin, TX, and the Texas State Invitational in San Marcos, TX.

The Bill Webb Combined Events/Bob Davidson Memorial Invitational for the Panther women was highlighted by Nyile Facey who set a school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.18. Facey broke her prior school record which she set at the 2021 Big South Outdoor Championships. Mackenzie Horn also cleared 4.15m in the women’s pole vault elite final to win the event. Fellow vaulter Rachel Vesper finished in fifth place clearing a bar of 3.90m.

Panther Particulars

The Panthers women’s 4x400m team finished in third place with a time of 3:54.29.

Alicia Dawson finished in second place in the women’s long jump with a mark of 6.03m.

Sydney Bagus finished in third place in the women’s 1500m run with a time of 4:47.01. Bagus also finished in fifth place in the women’s 800m run with a time of 2:21.95.

Ebba Ahman finished in fifth place in the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.68.

Julia Newman and Kelly Chaballa finished in fifth and sixth in the javelin with marks of 36.81m and 36.78m respectively.

Jordan Pringle set a PR in the triple jump with a mark of 11.78m to finish in fifth place.

Toni Lamond set a personal best in the hammer with a throw of 41.00m.

Emma Grace finished in third place in the women’s pole vault B group with a clearance of 3.40m.

Lilly Wolf and Lexi Crompton finished in seventh and eighth place respectively with 4337 and 4223 points.
