Bouchrak Breaks School Record in 3000m Steeplechase Performance at Duke Invitational

DURHAM and GREENSBORO, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field finished multiple days of competition at two different meets in North Carolina (Duke Invitational and the Aggie Invitational). The highlight for the Panther men this weekend was Hocine Bouchrak finishing in second place in the men’s 3000m steeplechase and breaking Dakota Pechee’s school record, which had stood since 2013. Bouchrak ran 8:41.90 which was over a second faster than Pechee’s time of 8:43.04 in which he ran at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Bouchrak’s time currently puts him in third place in the NCAA East Region in the event.

Panther Particulars

Chris Van Niekerk finished in second place in the men’s shotput with a throw of 17.86m. He also finished fifth in the men’s discus with a mark of 52.94m.

Adam Craig finished in fourth place in the men’s pole vault group B with a season’s best clearance of 4.60m. Kolt Byers finished in eighth place in the event and tied his personal best with a clearance of 4.45m.

Felix Leblanc finished in seventh place in the decathlon with a personal best score of 6007. Stephen Binkley finished in tenth place with a season best score of 5603.

In Greensboro, Deron Dudley finished in fourth place in the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.44 seconds. Also in Greensboro, in the men’s 400m dash, Terris Burton finished in tenth place with a time of 48.63.

Assistant coach Scott Houston won the men’s pole vault final with a clearance of 5.55m.

The Panthers will return home for the first ever Meet of Champions on Saturday, April 16th. The meet will feature schools who are defending conference champions (Liberty, High Point, North Carolina A&T, and Charlotte). The meet will be scored and a men’s Meet of Champions winner will be crowned. The majority of the Meet of Champions will be broadcast on ESPN+.


Women’s Distance Shines in Durham on Friday Night at the Duke Invitational

DURHAM and GREENSBORO, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field finished multiple days of competition at two different meets in North Carolina (Duke Invitational and the Aggie Invitational). The highlight for the Panther women this weekend was the women’s distance performances of Hannah Brookover in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and Ashley Jones and Lindsey Ickes in the women’s 5000m run. Hannah Brookover ran a time of 10:15.80 in the women’s 3000m steeplechase to finish in fourth place and put her in a good position to qualify for NCAA Regionals in Bloomington, Indiana (currently sitting in 14th place in the NCAA East Region). In the women’s 5000m finals, Ashley Jones finished in second with a personal best time of 16:26.60. Lindsey Ickes finished right behind her in third place with a personal best time of 16:26.90. Both times were within two seconds of the HPU school record and currently sit in 29th and 30th place in the NCAA East Region.

Panther Particulars

Sydney Horn won the women’s pole vault with a second bar clearance at 4.40m at the Duke Invitational. Horn just missed in three attempts at 4.46m. Emma Grace set a personal best in the women’s group B pole vault with a clearance of 3.55m to finish in third place.

The personal records were also in full effect in the women’s 1500m run in Durham. In the women’s 1500m invite finals, Olive Allen ran a personal best time of 4:24.73 to finish in 11th place. In the women’s open 1500m run, Franzi Jakobs had a personal best time of 4:36.00 and Sydney Bagus had a personal best time of 4:36.62.

Lilly Wolf finished in eleventh place in the women’s heptathlon with a personal best score of 4524. Julia Newman finished in ninth place in the women’s javelin with a mark of 38.61m.

In Greensboro, Nyile Facey won the women’s 100m hurdles final with a time of 13.63 seconds. Also, the HPU women’s 4x100m team finished in fourth place with a time of 47.24. Facey, Leah Bolden, and Dae’Nitra Hester also finished with times of 25.36, 25.37, and 25.45 in the women’s 200m dash, respectively.
