Almost run into an Active Shooter situation this morning, “On the Morning Run”

Out on the Morning Run for this morning, and as I headed up the hill toward General Greene Elementary School, I could hear the announcement over the PA/public address system saying something like, “You Can Unlock, or Go Out That Door Now”

I was thinking to myself, what is that talk all about…I hear announcements coming from over there at General Greene all the time, and it is usually in the afternoon, when school is letting out, at around 2:30pm…

But this was just before 9am this morning/Monday morning, and after hearing that announcement, as I ran more up to the top of the hill, I could see Greensboro Police cars, trucks and vans, there were Guilford County Sheriff’s cars, Fire Trucks, Emergency/EMT vehicles, and there might have been 50 to 75 all together of these vehicles, in and around the streets leading into General Greene School…

This day and time, one of your first thoughts is that maybe some kid brought a gun to school, and maybe that gun was loaded…Or maybe some parent went off of the deep end, and came into the school threatening to take the place over….

Any way, it looks like they put the school, General Greene on lockdown, and as I was running through the potential crime scene, I did not stop and ask any of the law enforcement officials any questions, since they were very busy, taking care of the business at hand, so I went on down the hill and continued my morning run/jog…

On the way back up the hill, after I had been down and around Gracewood, and was coming back up the street onto Benjamin Parkway, I noticed several TV camera people getting their shots…

But, from what I could tell overall, no gunshots had been fired there, in-and-around General Greene School this morning, as I began to complete my Morning Run…

As I crossed over Benjamin Parkway, and onto another sidewalk, I had to run around a couple of police officers that were stationed there, and then I saw what appeared to be a TV reporter, and in fact it was…

The young lady was from FOX 8 News, and I asked her as I was jogging in place, “What happened here today?”…She said an Active Shooter present on campus at General Greene was initially reported, but there was some confusion, and after further investigation/review, “There was no Active Shooter at General Greene School, on this Monday morning”….There was simply some confusion and a misunderstanding….

That is what the FOX 8 TV reporter told me, and you should see her full report coming up on the FOX 8 News at Noon…

Leave it up to me, to get caught up in a potential Active Shooter situation to start off my Monday morning, and The Morning Run….

All is safe and sound, and you can return to your seats, at General Greene School today…..

Still when you look up and see 50-75 police cars and emergency vehicles in your neighborhood, it makes for an interesting start to your new week…

And when you are running down the road, and there are a lot of police cars around with the blue lights flashing, you also start to cover your face a little bit, and you run just a little bit faster, in case the bullets do start flying….
