HPU Track Recap: Charlotte Invitational

Women’s Track first, Men’s Track follow at end.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field completed two days at the Charlotte Invitational. The weekend for the Panther Women was highlighted by Letizia Marsico who won the women’s discus as she went 46.51m. Sydney Horn won the pole vault with a mark of 4.28m. Mackenzie Horn continues her success this season as she finished second with a mark of 4.12m. Katie Taylor smashed her previous best in the 5000 as she ran it in 17:37.33 significantly besting her previous PR of 18:13.97. Franzi Jakobs set a new personal best in the 800m as she went 2:09.53 finishing second.

Panther Particulars

Olive Allen finished fourth in the Elite 1500m with a time of 4:27.95. Sydney Bagus finished seventh with a time of 4:34.76. In the 1500m on Saturday, Juliana Higgins won the 1500m with a personal best time of 5:12.35.

It was a PR filled 5000 in Charlotte for the distance women. Anna Ritter finished ninth in the 5000m running a time of 17:55.12 setting a new PR. Alyssa Deeds set a new PR by over 20 seconds running a time of 18:04.42. In her Panther debut, Paris Stankewich she ran the 5000 in 18:09.27.

Also in the women’s pole vault, Rachel Vesper finished fourth with a mark of 4.03m and Nathalie Elliott cleared 3.73m to finish fifth.

Liana Betts finished 8th in the shot put with a mark of 11.78m

Kelly Chaballa finished second in the javelin with a mark of 37.02m, Katie Gregory finished fifth with a mark of 32.02m.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High Point University Track & Field completed two days at the Charlotte Invitational. The weekend for the Panther Men was highlighted by Adam Craig who matched his PR in the pole vault as he cleared 4.85m. He was the second collegiate finisher. Rayan Vanderpooten finished fourth in the men’s 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:04.19.

Panther Particulars

Jake Tarosky set a PR in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:17.36.

Alex Hoffman finished 8th in the discus reregistering a mark of 44.55m.

In the elite 1500m, Lorenzo Botter finished 10th with a time of 3:55.85.

Wally Sample recorded a throw of 48.62m in the javelin which earned him a fourth-place finish.

Kolt Byers finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m, and Evan Mills finished eighth with a mark of 1.85m.

Byers also competed in the pole vault where he cleared 4.60m, and Stephen Binkley cleared 4.20m. HPU Assistant Scott Houston won the pole vault unattached clearing 5.67m. Panther Alum Austin Miller cleared 5.60 finishing in second behind Houston.
