Scott Tyson named New Girls Head Basketball Coach at Southern Guilford High School

Scott Tyson New Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Southern Guilford High School

Southern Guilford High School is pleased to announce the promotion of Scott Tyson to his new role as the head women’s basketball coach at Southern Guilford.

Coach Tyson is a familiar face to the women’s program after serving as an assistant coach during the past three seasons under previous head coach Kelly Smith.

Coach Tyson started his coaching career in 2016 serving as an assistant coach under Tim Kelly, Jr. at Wheatmore High School helping lead the Warriors to the second round of the NCHSAA playoffs. Coach Tyson also served as the head freshman coach and varsity assistant coach at Piedmont Classical High School from 2017-2019 under head coach Kenneth Free, Jr. These two seasons saw Piedmont Classical achieve a combined record of 57-16 on their way to consecutive CAASC State Championships.

In addition to his teaching duties and coaching women’s basketball, Coach Tyson has also served as an assistant football coach while at Southern. Coach Tyson is married to wife Lauren and they have a young son, Jax.
