Running into some Good People along the way

Doing the running and the walking on a daily basis, I often run into some really good people along the way…I might be heading down the street, and I will run into, or walk up on somebody I have never met, or seen before….Some weeks, I hit the jackpot and see new people, and see people from the past, that make the path a better way to travel..

Yesterday/Tuesday, I was walking in the afternoon…I try to get the run in, in the morning, and then follow that up with some walking in the afternoon…

On the afternoon walk, as I was cutting through the parking lot at General Greene Elementary School, and I ran into the principal…The principal at General Greene is Mrs. Harris…She is the super mom of Jasmine Harris, also known as “Little Harris”, and Jazzy Harris…

Got to talk to Mrs. Harris for a few minutes, and I was able to tell her about the great job Jazzy is doing playing girls basketball and running track for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…Jasmine is one of the top players in the state of North Carolina, and she has to be in the Top Ten for the Class of 2024….The kid works so hard, and she is showing tons of improvement each and every year, at NGHS…One of the hardest working kids in North Carolina, no doubt about it…Mrs. Harris and her husband, Mr. Jarvis Harris have a lot to be proud of, with the job that is being turned in by their daughter Jasmine Harris…

The other Harris’ daughter, Janelle Harris, is in college at Virginia Tech, and she is playing college rugby, at Blacksburg…

General Greene Elementary School, a great community school, led by Jazzy Harris’ mom, Mrs. Harris….

Last week, I had an hour to kill one morning, and not being one to sit around and let the time just drag by, I decided to get in some extra walking that day and walk from Latham Park, to the downtown post office on Murrow Blvd….I got in there, checked out my post office box, and was heading back out of the parking lot, and on my way back to Latham Park…

Low-and-behold, coming out of that Murrow Blvd. post office parking lot in a big UPS truck, was Mr. Sturdivant…He is one of the most positive and encouraging people you will ever meet…Just his hello, will get your blood pumping again…Mr. Sturdivant’s son, Desmond, played football for the Smith Golden Eagles, and later “Chunky”/Desmond played college football for Hampton University…Desmond Sturdivant was an outstanding high school football player for Ben L. Smith HS, and he was there with fellow-senior Cameron Clark, and with Sturdivant and Clark, Smith had two of the best high school football linemen in the state…

Got the big HELLO and how’s it going from Mr. Sturdivant down at the Murrow Blvd. post office, and that really made my day…Like Mrs. Harris and the Harris family, Mr. Sturdivant and his family, are just good people…Always good to run into Mr. Sturdivant, because it will make your day….Just like our good friend Pastor Dennis White, Mr. Sturdivant will make your day better when you see him…

Plenty of good people along the way….

And one more for us today….Ran into Kevin Henry last week out at Bur-Mil Park….Kevin was at the polls helping out with the election process, and I got a chance to speak with him, last Friday….Kevin Henry played football and basketball at Northwest Guilford High School, and he also played ball at Southeast Guilford High School…Kevin is now at East Carolina University, and he has one more year of college football eligibility remaining, and he hopes to be on the field, this upcoming Fall, for some college football team…Kevin Henry is a defensive back, and he has that one year of college football eligibility left…East Carolina, Virginia Tech, he wants to be playing somewhere, this Fall, and then his goal is to get to the NFL….

Kevin and I talked about all sorts of players and coaches from the past….Keenan Allen, Christian McCain, Tre Turner, Thomas Hennigan, Jalen Spicer, Jaylen Gore, Reggie Davis, Nick Powell, Cody Hylton, Coach Joe Woodruff, Coach Fritz Hesenthaler, Coach Jared Rolfes, and a whole lot more….

Kevin Henry is a hard-working young man, and he knows he has maybe one more solid chance left, to show his stuff on the college football field, and he hopes to get the chance/opportunity to be back on the field, for one final time, this Fall….

Good Luck to Kevin Henry in his quest to play college football one more time, and he is a young man, who has strived to be the best he can be, and still do the right thing and represent and hold up his family, in high regard….
