Matt Gorski(Greensboro Grasshoppers) named South Atlantic League Player of the Week

A well-deserved honor for former Greensboro Grasshopper center fielder, and now current Altoona Curve OF, Matt Gorski…

Gorski left Greensboro with 17 home runs and 37 RBI for the 2022 South Atlantic League season, and last week, in the Sally, Gorski homered a total of eight times…Gorski capped off the torid week at the plate, with three home runs and 4 RBI, yesterday/Sunday, and helped the Hoppers win the game, as he took over and clubbed a Walk-off game-winning home run to left field, in the bottom of the ninth inning, with the score tied at 3-3, and his home run, again his third of the day, allowed the Grasshoppers to walk out with a 4-3 victory, over the Bowling Green Hot Rods…

Matt Gorski walked it off on the Sunday, hitting his game-winning HR on the first pitch he saw, there in the bottom of the ninth inning as the leadoff batter, and Gorski walks away from Greensboro, and on to Altoona, as the South Atlantic League Baseball Player of the Week…And if he were to come back to Greensboro, he would be sure to start in the All-Star Game, if they were having a SAL All-Star Game this season….

Minor League Baseball announced their weekly award winners this afternoon for May 16-22. The Pittsburgh Pirates were represented on that list by outfielder Matt Gorski, who had a huge week that led to his promotion last night to Altoona. He had three multi-homer games, capped off by three home runs on Sunday, which led to all four Greensboro runs. His final swing with the team was a walk-off homer in the ninth. Gorski batted .435/.458/1.522 for the week, with eight homers. He has 17 homers now, which is more than double anyone else in the Pirates system this season. His slash line for the season stands at .294/.377/.754 in 37 games, with nine steals in ten attempts.
