The New York Yankees placed Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list due to a right calf strain, the team announced Wednesday.
Stanton, 32, has split time this season as right fielder and designated hitter for the Yankees. On Tuesday night, he exited in the seventh inning of New York’s 7-6 win against the Baltimore Orioles with calf tightness and underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning.
The Yankees have MLB’s best record at 30-13 and Stanton has contributed with stellar numbers at the plate. The 2017 NL MVP is batting .339 with 11 home runs, tied for fourth most in the AL. Stanton leads the Yankees with 35 RBI, third most in the MLB behind only Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets.
Stanton was struggling just prior to the injury, though, with zero hits and seven strikeouts in his last four games.
New York will start Aaron Judge in right field, Miguel Andújar in left field, and Joey Gallo at designated hitter Wednesday night against the Orioles.
