Omega Sports Report:Greensboro Grasshoppers win and lose on the same night(Hoppers fall 5-2 to Rocks, but draw a crowd of 6,233 to watch game)

Courtesy of Omega Sports, “Your Neighborhood Sports Store”, on Battleground Avenue, in Greensboro….

Final from Saturday night, at First National Bank Field, in downtown Greensboro:
Wilmington Blue Rocks 5, Greensboro Grasshoppers 2
WP:Carlos Romero(3-2)
LP:Jack Carey(2-4)
SV:Tyler Yankosky(3)
Hoppers(21-28)/Blue Rocks(25-22)

Rocks' line: 5-8-0
Hoppers' line:2-6-1

The Greensboro Grasshoppers lost on the field, as they were turned back for the fourth time, in five days, by the Wilmington, Delaware Blue Rocks…But, the Hoppers won at the gate/turnstiles, as they drew a season-high, 6,233 fans…One heck of crowd, on a busy Saturday night at First National Bank Field, and you can’t really call this night a total loss, especially when you have fans coming out and enjoying themselves like this gathered group did on Saturday evening, in downtown Greensboro…

The Hoppers were cordial hosts, and the fans not only saw a very competitive baseball game, they were treated to a Spectacular Saturday Fireworks Show, once the game was over/complete, and that is nothing but a win-win situation right there….

For the game, we have posted the basic totals here for you, but what really jumps off of the scorebook page for me is this…The six through nine spots in the Rocks’ batting order, produced 6 of the Rocks’ 8 hits…Those four spots in the Rocks’ batting order also provided four of the Rocks’ five runs…I was looking over those numbers while doing the Steak n Shake Postgame Show, and you have to admit, those results are pretty darn impressive….Six through nine, with #6 man Ricardo Mendez going 1-4/Run…#7 man Jeremy Ydens going 2-4/HR/RBI…#8 man Gage Canning went 1-3/BB/Run/RBI…And #9 man Jordy Barley goes 2-4/Double/Run…Pretty impressive group of hitters there, in the bottom of the batting order…

Wilmington also got a 2-4 night at the plate from Jose Sanchez, and he also drove in two runs…Sanchez at the number two spot, in the Rocks’ batting order…

It was a Steak n Shake Player of the Game night for the Hoppers’ first baseman Abrahan Gutierrez…Gutierrez collected two hits, and smacked his fourth home run of the season on a solo shot to left field, in the 6th inning…Gutierrez ended up with both Hopper RBI on the evening, as he poked a ground ball single to the six hole in 8th inning, scoring Yoyner Fajardo…Gutierrez 2-4/HR/2 RBI…

Our other Steak n Shake Player of the Game was starting pitcher Nick Garcia…He eclipsed the five inning mark, going 5 1/3 innings,
while giving up just one run, on four hits, with one walk and five strikeouts…Garcia did give up the one home run, to the Rocks’ Ydens, but that was a solo homer, and they say those solo HR’s are not supposed to beat you, and Garcia did not end up taking the loss, plus he did enough to win the ballgame on many a night…

Back to the sticks, the Hoppers also got a double from Dariel Lopez, 1-3/Double/BB, while Ernny Ordonez, Sammy Siani, and Francisco Acuna each had one hit, all singles…

For the second time in the weekly series, the Hoppers were only able to draw one walk, as the Rocks’ pitchers walked one, and struck out 12 Hopper batters…The Rocks’ starter Michael Cuevas, was very much on his game, as he worked five innings, giving up 0 runs, on three hits, with 0 BB’s, and 7 big strikeouts…Seven of the twelve Rock strikeouts coming from their starter Cuevas..The Rocks also got a very solid effort from their closer, Tyler Yankosky…Yankosky worked the last 1 1/3 innings of the contest, and was a “lights out” closer…Nothing but zeros from Yankosky, with 0 Runs/0 Hits/0 Walks, and 2 strikeouts…Yankosky pretty much untouchable/unhittable….

Attendance:6,233
Time of Game-2:27

These same two teams will meet again for the final time this week, on Sunday afternoon at 2pm, at First National Bank Field, in downtown Greensboro…In the weekly series, the Rocks lead the Hops, 4-1…Need to create a Rock slide on Sunday at FNB Field…
