‘Urgency’ on Panthers’ side to trade for Browns QB Baker Mayfield soon?

Mandatory minicamps kick off today for two NFL teams with a couple of the most interesting quarterback situations heading into the summer — the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns.
It was reported last week that former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield would be excused from Browns’ minicamp, as the team continues its efforts to trade the disgruntled 27-year-old. According to a poll conducted by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the majority of league agents, coaches and executives believe that Mayfield will be cut from the team.
On Tuesday morning, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones had an update on the situation, as did Joe Person of The Athletic.
As minicamps begin today for the Browns and Panthers, trade talks between the teams continue surrounding QB Baker Mayfield, per sources. The main issue remains Mayfield's salary and how much (or how little) teams pay.

Minicamp was seen as a soft deadline by Panthers on a Baker Mayfield trade, b/c they want to get him in and get him familiar with his teammates and the offense.
As @jjones9 said, talks continue. But Panthers want CLE to pick up a big chunk of Mayfield’s salary. So far, no budge.— Joe Person (@josephperson) June 14, 2022
Depending on Deshaun Watson’s legal issues, Mayfield is presumed to have lost his starting job with Cleveland the Browns acquired Watson in March. In addition to the acquisition of Watson in the offseason, the Browns also brought in veteran Jacoby Brissett in case the former Houston Texans star is suspended.
Any potential buyer wants the team to pick up most of the nearly $19 million of fully guaranteed salary owed to Mayfield for 2022 if they would not release him.
